I have get those exact pains. My entire spine hurts at times and the upper neck (especially at the base of my skull). Both PCP and LLMD can feel the spasms along my spine. LLMD believes this is related to Bart.

Yes, constant neck and upper spine pain pretty bad in our daughter. No sign of bart though. Lyme, ehrlichia, candida, virus, parasites, mycoplasma -- and that's just what we know about -- who knows what causes what?

There are many causes of neck pain, but I am going to address on that doesn't seem to ever get much attention here, and typically people just chalk it up to Lyme and suffer endlessly.
The pain could be from Magnesium depletion. And before anyone says "I take magnesium every day', I'd like to point out that you really need IV and IM. Especially if you have the connected shoulder issues.
The pain is muscle spazms caused by magnesium depletion. The tricky thing is actually finding the spazm, since they tend to send out referred pain to other areas.
i.e. I had them all over the back of my skull, but typically I'd feel jaw pain, or neck pain, or the top of my skull would hurt. Or my shoulder was frozen in place.
If you poke around with your knuckle around your skull and shoulders, (if you have them) you will typically find hard lumps under the skin that REALLY hurt when you press on them. Interestingly enough, if you press on them super hard, you will notice that the 'referred pain' elsewhere usually goes away.
Spazms do NOT go away on their own, and antibiotics do not fix them. Abx kill the bacteria that cause the mineral deficiency. But you still have to treat the deficiency. And if you are low in magnesium, oral just isn't going to cut it. You need IV and IM. And probably numerous doses and monitored testing.
Spazms themselves can be addressed by either Trigger Point Therapy (which is just lidocaine & water) injected directly into the spazm(s). The need helps bust up the spazm and the lidocaine blissfully numbs you. You may need a series of these done (I do recall getting sometimes 7 shots at one time).
Prolotherapy is also used.
You can also work on breaking up a spazm yourself if you only have one or two. Applying stiff pressure of knuckle (yours or a loved ones) for pretty much as long as you can take it. Think thumb war - sooner or later, something will give. Then follow this up with heat.

Hi, Know they like neck area had no idea for yrs. why in sooo much pain. Was like carrying around ton off bricks which would be hard for big guy to carry 24/7, Right?? I have read ALS is linked to lyme along with MS,Parkinson,FM/CFIDS/ME/RA/++++. ALS just another advanced part of infection my late stage Lyme I might be heading that way myself lots signs. for 2young2die... Heard it hits spine because if you look at it 1 of largest bone & area to attack, easy. Only thing keep me going if muscle relaxant. Take Care See if you can get help or get treatment or will get worse from my med. experience. Huggggssss, To all In need, sounds like you need few?????Kerry
