Does it help for depression? How about Sam-E?. How much of 5 htp has helped and how about Sam-E dose? Has anyone switched from either of these to antidepressants? Can't medically take ssri's. so have to get off what I was on and being monitored. Anyone know of antidepressants/ocd meds that aren't ssri's in case the hpt and sam-E doesn't cut it?

My daughter's LLND told her last week to take (2) 100 mg at night before bed. Before diagnosis her pedi told her to take melatonin, and Nurse practitioner, non LL, had her doing 50 mg benedryl for sleep. No exp. with Sam-e.
The way this new LLND put it was start with 200 and we may need to increase. She is being treated for Lyme and Bartonella, actually just focusing on Bart for now.

5 HTP made sleep difficult for me, so I gave up on it. I think it did give me an almost speed like high, but I did not stay on it long enough for a real strong opinion

It restores low serotonin levels which cause depression, anxiety and insomnia. I take 100mg at night followed by low dose elavil. I would like to eliminate the elavil completely but need to taper it down slowly. I don't think 5 Htp can hurt but when you are on too many things you don't always know.
