My 9 year old was diagnosed with late stage lyme in August 2009 and had 4 wks of amoxcillin followed by 4 weeks of doxycycline and then we were told the lyme was no longer in her blood.
We were sent to an orthopedist. After MRIs, xrays, physical therapy, we were told she has degenerative disc disease and had to learn to live with the pain.
Then we were sent to an ID doc in Jan 2010 who does not believe all her symptoms are caused by lyme but she was open to trying 3 more weeks of antibiotics. My daughter has been receiving cetriaxone by IV twice a day for the past 10 days. Her pain has increased from about 7 out of 10 to 9 and sometimes 10 on a scale of 10.
Her symptoms are a constant throbbing headache, severe localized pain in her lumbar spine and chest pain.
She made it to school for 3 hours in total last week. Today she made it only through 1 period. Motrin has no effect - does not even take the edge of the pain. Tylenol with Codiene has not helped her pain either.
After she has had to sit in a chair for 45 minutes, she is on her knees with her head on the floor moaning quietly.
Do you know anyone who can help her?
