Our 7 1/2 year old was bit by a tick 5 years ago. He had a huge bulls-eye rash on his back and two rashes under his arms. He wasn't tested at the time, but rather immediately treated with Oral Antibiotics for Lyme (4 weeks).
We now believe the Lyme never was cured.
Over the years he has complained of joint pain, headaches, etc. He has occasional night sweats, low grade fevers & fatigue, and recently has developed a cough.
6 months ago his left knee was swollen for 3+ weeks. We thought he banged it on the floor, and Dr. looked at it, we had it x-rayed. Dr. said it was likely a bruise under his knee cap & we should wait it out, so we did and the fluid did go away.
Last month his other knee became severely swollen, along with the low grade fever, & other symptoms. He had blood tests and his knee was aspirated and we had the synovial fluid tested too. He tested positive for Lyme.
We went to an Infectious disease specialist this week who put him on antibiotics for 6 weeks at my demand.
We have a family member who had severe Lyme and was mistreated initially and eventually was treated for 18 months on IV and she seems to be fully recovered.
We want to make sure our son is treated correctly and therefore would like to see a LLMD.
Thanks in advance for your help.
