I am located on the California coast half way between San francisco and Los Angeles.
I have just been bitten, 12/31/2010, by a western black legged deer tick. The site shows a small round red area half an inch in diameter.
I did get the immediate 200mg of doxcycline from an ER doctor.
I want to quickly find a lyme knowledgeable doctor who will aggressively treat this immediately without waiting for all the usual tests, ie. make a clinical diagnosis and give me the neccessary antibiotics in the required quantity.
I do not mind driving some distance to reach a good doctor.
I have had the unfortunate experience of 18 years ago being diagnosed well after infection and spending 7 years on antibiotics. I am fully aware of the trial we all go through. I thought I was finally free of it.
I must thank you so much for being there and I truly look forward to hearing from you soon.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. EJL

Some LLMDs have a loooong waiting list. If you saw the tick and also a rash, GET IT TREATED asap!
This is considered a gift ( i hate to say it but your relatively lucky).
The trick is to get it treated asap. Def. make an appt. to see an llmd but call your general physician and see if he will treat you propholactically with antibiotics for the exposure and rash.

Thanks all. Due to my prior experience I quickly found a family doctor who was open minded, listened to what I told him, I requested doxycyclene and got what I wanted, so I was aggressively treating it within a few days: taking 200mg twice a day. This probably saved me at least a month of waiting. I had the benefit of previous experience and knew what to do. I also sent the tick to the Santa Clara Public Health Lab. for analysis with a check for $15.00. I am waiting for the result. I can now relatively calmly choose a LLMD doctor without undue anxiety and afford to wait for appointments, etc. Yes I photographed the bite site. I was so quick with treatment that I think what was perhaps the begiining of a bullseye rash stopped developing.
