My 20 year old daughter is going to college in Salem Oregon and needs a physician nearby.

After eight months of extreme leg pain and tests from multiple doctors, one finally did a Western Blot that was positive. She needs further testing and treatment as soon as possible.

Thanks!

I'm sorry to have to tell you but Oregon has zero lyme literate MDs. It's very difficult for those with lyme who live in Oregon, even with a positive Western Blot.

However, there are a few ILADS-educated lyme literate (LL) naturopathic doctors. In Oregon, NDs are authorized to prescribe antibiotics.

I will PM you the name of a LL ND on the Southwest side of Portland - and the number of the Portland Lyme Support Group.

The Oregon Lyme Disease Network (volunteer) has just closed due to lack of funds. However, there is a support group in Portland and one in Eugene. I will send those phone numbers to you.

I really feel for your daughter as the politics of lyme in Oregon can be very harsh, indeed, especially if she would need any other kinds of medical care, the doctors here are simply dangerously ignorant of the complexities of lyme and other tick-borne infections.

I'm not trying to paint a negative picture but simply offer details that could be life saving to your daughter if both you and she know the terrain.

Be sure to log on so that your PM alert will flash, just clink onto that to access your message.
