I am a patient and physician, diagnosed with Lyme since August 2011. I have made progress with my current LLMD, but feel the approach is cookie cutter and I am not breaking through. I am studying many other approaches and am on the Zhang protocol and using my newly purchased GB4000. I believe that in my case there are complex autoimmune issues (+ANA, arthritis) as well as Babesia (+serology, some specific symptoms) and possibly other co-infections. My LLMD seems to focus on Borrelia-specific therapies only. Dr. H in NY has been recommended. I am in Northeast PA but would travel anywhere. Please help. Thank you.

I sent you a private message with info for PA.

Hi - just read what you wrote here - very interesting that you are also a physician - you have a unique opportunity to think medically about what is going on - I wish you the best with your healing - maybe you will contribute to the field as an educated doctor -
Btw, many people are doing well with the Buhner herbs - Steven Buhner wrote a book, "Healing Lyme," about treating with many herbs. yahoo discussion site: lyme_aid_buhner

My advice would be to avoid neurologists -- even the supposed lyme literate ones.
In my opinion it may be better for you to see a lesser known LLMD who is not so booked up and can schedule more frequent appointments. Hubby has been to many LLMD's and has had the best luck when he is seen at least every 4 weeks and has a minimum of 45 minutes with the doc. We tried the 6 or 8 week approach and that is less conducive to forward progress.
I think you are on the right track to aggressively pursue coinfections. They have become more and more important since hubby first became ill 11 years ago. But the LLMD's are all over the board on how they treat the various coinfections.
And I also agree that a combo of meds and herbs is more likely to yield positive results.
Your choice of LLMD's will depend greatly on whether or not you want to pursue IV antibiotics. If you are only interested in treating with orals there are many more options.
Personally if we had the money I would probably take hubby to Dr H (his father is the founder of IGeneX). You can read more about his treatment approach in the book by Connie S that discusses 13 different LLMD's. Actually the chapter on Dr H is available free on the internet.
If you want to discuss hubby's very aggressive babesia treatment over the last 14 months send me a personal email at
