My son has had to take a health leave of absence from college for a second time because of psychological symptoms of Lyme and co-infections. He basically has no motivation or energy. I'm going to take him to Dr. B in Red Bank, but can someone recommend a counselor (MSW, PhD., or LSW) for him to see in either North or Central New Jersey? Someone who gets all the strange mental problems Lyme and Co. can cause? He's a very timid 20-year-old. THANKS! Mary

Is he under the care of a LLMD (Lyme-literate doctor)?
Read www.thehumansideoflyme.net. Dr. S is a Lyme-literate psychiatrist in PA who has had firsthand experience with Lyme.
Click on the upper right-hand corner of her web page where it says "E-mail me" and ask her for help or if she can refer you to someone.

I typically do not post much at all but saw your posting.
There is a Dr. C in Morris County.
She is a Ph.D. Clinical Psychology/LPC and specializes in the psychological aspects of chronic/terminal medical oriented issues. I know she is Lyme Literate (I believe she had a chronic case herself) and could probably call her a LLPHD.
If Morris County is within your wheelhouse then shoot me an PM and I can share her contact info.

Thank you hopingandpraying and triathongal for your quick and thoughtful responses. He has been under the care of a LLMD in central Jersey (the same doctor who has been treating me for Lyme for seven years), but as his symptoms are more psychological, and increasingly debilitating, I'm going to take him to someone who specializes in neuro-psychiatric Lyme symptoms and counseling. Dr. S is a good suggestion! My son's health leave of absence from college is requiring him to have at least six months of weekly counseling before he may be considered eligible to return. I, of course, just want him to get better.

Rbm, Thanks for your post. I sent you a PM. I know when I get a pm, I get an email to my regular email account, then I am linked to my Lymenet account.
