Brother in law experiencing head/neck pain and joint pain aft tick bite one month ago. Doctor today, won't do western blot unless Elisa is positive says it CDC and MD state law.
Gave him 100 mg of doxy for 20 days until test results come back, wtf????

I really doubt that the state of Maryland made such a law for doctors to follow. That would be preposterous that Maryland legislators would want to be sure the Western Blot could not be ordered without an Elisa first.
The lyme docs in Maryland that I recommend routinely order a Western Blot without doing an Elisa first. They NEVER order an Elisa.
Now, I do believe the CDC guidelines are that the Elisa is to be ordered first. But, that is as far as it goes.
So, this doc doesn't want to go outside the CDC guidelines. If he thinks there is a Maryland law, he is a little strange.
