I'm 33 weeks pregnant and have had chronic Lyme in the past but was in what seemed like remission for about 2 years (didn't have insurance so couldn't get blood work rechecked to know for sure). About 2 weeks ago I started feeling awful. I currently have United Healthcare Community Plan because of the pregnancy (through Medicaid) so I went for blood work and found out today that I have positive WB IgM p41 and quantitative IgM level of 1.74 so seem to have an active infection. I'm terrified of passing to the baby and of course of getting sicker and not being able to care for us both (I'm also going to be a single mom). My old ID doctor (Dr. K of Stony Brook, NY) doesn't accept Medicaid. I'm not sure what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Bluejay, I sent a note out to a few people I know, I'll let you know if they can be of any help.
I'm sorry you're in this position, lyme is bad enough but, being pregnant, single mom, and being on Medicaid is adding more stress to your life.
For the time being I would concentrate on your own hearth, which in turn will help the baby.
Stay as healthy as possible, you'll need professional help as far as medications because of your pregnancy.
Do you have a doctor you're seeing for your pregnancy? If you do, I would at least start with her/him. Tell them you have lyme disease and need some advice on what to do.

I'll PM you a doctor but WB IGM p41 is not necessarily anything to worry about. It commonly accompanies other Lyme antibody bands, but it can also result from spirochetes in the mouth that almost everyone is exposed to.

PM sent. Due to your pregnancy I would try to appeal to Dr. K's human side to treat you pro bono. Good luck

Sent PM with name of NY pediatric LLMD who trained under Dr. J. She might be able to give advice and know of a doctor for your situation.

I am not familiar with the llmd out by you, but I was treated by a llmd in MO my entire pregnancy. My dd is 16months old now and doing great. Being that you are already 33 weeks pregnant and has not been on abx from the beginning, not sure if it's already too late. I can tell you that my obgy was okay with me taking abx while pregnant but would have never given them to me herself. She actually called Dr. C. office and talked to him about it.
My advice is to find a llmd that will treat while pregnant and continue to see the obgyn and let them know what is going on. Maybe the obgyn office would be willing to treat? Can't hurt to try. Not many llmd take medicaid. p.m. if you have any questions.
Hope it works out. Also, I would find someone before the baby is born. I had a bad relapse after my dd was born and had to be put on different meds. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps you could contact Dr. J, the best Lyme pediatrician and ask for suggestions. PM sent to you for contact information.
Dr. J does have a protocol for pregnant women with Lyme, but you are at 33 weeks, so I don't know what could be done. Maybe they could refer you to someone.
