Hello,

Looking for a llmd on long island. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. While I'm posting here maybe someone can answer some of my other questions? I'm here bc I'm frustrated and concerned. To catch anyone reading this up I'm on my third round of antibiotics which thankfully I got from an infectious disease doctor after she originally accused me of being fine. She then looked at my lab results and after being taken back and exclaiming "holy bars" (8 positive on the western blot test) wrote out instructions for the emergency room she wanted me to go to. On there was an HIV, encephilitis, lumbar puncture, EKG, neuro eval, and some other tests. My question is are those all necessary? Lumbar puncture (spinal tap) sounds pretty painful and I've been through enough pain already these last few months blowing out my knee which is when they found my Lyme (and also led to my symptoms getting out of hand thanks to the steroid injections) I waited in the emergency room for over 4 hours before walking out the door, before I approach another doctor I'd love to know if I need to go through all of those tests. Thank you again to anyone reading this who can add any insight. And an llmd referal, obviously, much needed.

Do NOT do the spinal tap... at least not NOW!

I wish I had seen this post yesterday. For more help, please copy your medical questions and post HERE:

Since your WB SCREAMS LYME... there is not much need for all the other testing. A spinal tap will usually NOT show Lyme. This Dr is just playing it safe and protecting her butt.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NewYorklyme

Maybe they can help you.

These Lyme organizations give doctor referrals:
www.ILADS.org
www.lymediseaseassociation.org

Btw - please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme. Thanks.
