I am hoping to talk to patients who have recent exepreince with Dr. Z, in the past 2 years. She told me in an appointment with my parents and her that she has developed a proprietary and outstandingly effective integrative prototocl that is superior to all other methods going on out there, and that her success rate with it is through the roof with chronic LD.

she's not getting results like that with my Dad, but he's non-compliant.

I am considering treating with her too, but it would require a cross-country move, and.....I have heard a number of bad reviews of her from former patients, but they are from back in teh days when she was into heavy ABX.

Please PM me if you can help or refere me to someone who knows her work, etc.

THANK YOU!
healing wishes for all,
e

I think regardless of whether you are looking for conventional antibiotic treatment or integrative treatment there are better options out there.

If you are going to move across the country to see a certain physician there would certainly be better alternatives.

The doc is a rheumatologist. Nothing wrong with that -- but personally I feel that the treatment for lyme arthritis and neuro lyme are not the same. So it would depend a lot on your primary symptoms in my opinion.

It has been at least 2 or 3 years since the doc won her case against the medical boards -- but my guess is that that was probably one of the reasons for the change in protocol.

Have not heard anything specific about the new protocol. Personally I think it requires both a combo of meds and herbs and supplements to make real progress -- would be leary of anyone who does not combine all 3.

Her background is in rheumatology but she is definitely a full fledged LLMD and has been for a long time. She is an ILADS member and actually served as a member of their board of directors for two years. So she definitely treats all forms of lyme (and co-infections) not just lyme arthritis.

Her case against the medical board was back in 2005 and from what I can gather I think it was the typical case of an LLMD getting harassed for prescribing long term abx.

Also she does use a combo of meds, herbs and supplements in her treatment protocol.

I was previously a patient of hers and did make some progress but wasn't having any major breakthroughs. So I ended up switching to the famous Dr. S in Maryland who has an excellent reputation.

Unfortunately he hasn't been able to help me at all. I have been feeling lousy for the last year and he seems to be at a loss with me. So I am now considering going back to Dr. Z since I did make some progress with her and I do feel like she is a very good LLMD.

In my experience she was always very thorough and seemed to be covering all of the right bases. Parasite treatment was part of her protocol years ago which was before it gained the popularity that it has now. At that time it wasn't even on the radar of the majority of LLMD's. So I wouldn't be too quick to write her off.

However, with that said, I have no clue if her protocol is actually working for people or not which is why I was looking for input from other patients. Before I make my decision about going back to her I would like to know how her other patients are doing and if they are getting well with her treatment protocol.

Hopefully some of her current or recent patients will give us their thoughts.

I would like to hear from anyone who has seen Dr. Z recently as well. Please PM me.

I am trying to decide between her and DNP S in DC (who my current primary care doc does not approve of).

Thanks!

DNP S in D.C. is not currently taking new patients.

Hopefully, she may open back up to a few new people in March 2014.

It seems to me that she is going to be very difficult to get in with from now on.

Have not heard many positive things about the doctor you are asking about.

DNP S in DC got my husband and I into remission after 18 months of treatment.

I live in the area and have heard good things about Dr. Z at support group meetings. I see another LLMD in NoVA.

My husband and I consider Dr. Z a miracle worker. My son had a severe arthritis-- all over the body-- from Lyme disease. He is now in a almost 2 year sustained remission. For us, this is incredible because I come from a family with a severe family history of arthritis. Four of my siblings (in their 50s and 60s) and all raised in CT have disabling arthritis.

When my son was 19, he got arthritis in the shoulders, ribs, sternum, hips and ankles. He couldn't go to college and had to stop playing basketball. She tested him and he was CDC positive for Lyme.

There were some neuro signs, but nothing big.

He is in a total remission since the beginning of 2012 and is off antibiotics.

She treats with antibiotics, antivirals, antiparasitics and antifungals. She gets the infectious load down and that shuts of the inflammation. It worked for him. It took about 18 months. She also had him on a lot of herbals and other supplements. She doesn't believe you can get well unless you treat for parasites and combine herbals with antibiotics. She also tests for viruses and other infections.

I also had Lyme, erlichia, and clinically diagnosed Bart. I had terrible fasciatis and lots of nerve pain as well as a gastroparesis. I was in treatment for about 18 months. It's all gone.

My daughter had a bite in 2011 (visiting CT) and she lives in Boston. She went to Dr. H there and had two years of treatment. She went off antibiotics last summer and the knee arthritis is back.

She's going to make the monthly trip to VA to see Dr. Z.

She has LOTS of satisfied patients, and she treats aggressively.

Good luck.
Mary
