MY 12 YR OLD SON NEEDS TO SEE A LYME DOC, SERIOUSLY DOUBTING HIS ARTHRITIS DIAGNOSIS. HE HAS ANTHEM AND MAINECARE. ARE THERE ANY DOCS WHO TAKE INSURANCE RATHER THAN CASH UP FRONT?
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

Welcome to Lymenet! Most Lyme-literate doctors (LLMDs) do not take insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease and its complex treatment.

Here is a link, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance" (by poster 'TF'):

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/2/15615?#000005

Read what poster 'TF' wrote to someone looking for Lyme doctors who take insurance:

"The best lyme doctors generally do not take insurance. When it comes to this disease, it pays to get the best doctor you can afford. That gives you the best chance of actually getting rid of this disease.

Many doctors treat lyme diease, but only a very few know enough to get rid of it for a person. I got rid of it over 8 years ago after having lyme undiagnosed for at least 10 years.

Let me know if you want the names of the docs in these areas (MD & DC) who are getting people well. Just send me a private message by clicking on the envelope icon above my post. The doctors I recommend do NOT take insurance.

To see what good lyme treatment looks like, read and study the Burrascano Lyme Treatment Guidelines found here:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

Then, look for a doctor who follows the Burrascano Guidelines. You can call your local support groups to get such information. Just click on Support Groups on the left side of the page.

It pays to be an educated patient with this disease. Otherwise, you can waste years with a doctor who doesn't know enough to get you well. So, study the Guidelines and compare them to the treatment you are getting.

Once I did that, I switched doctors and got rid of my diseases."

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/statenamelyme

Maybe they can help you.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used from Amazon.

There is a doctor in Madison, CT who takes insurance but not sure if she would treat a 12yo. Will try to send you her name in a PM if I can figure out how.

Good luck.
