I first of all want to thank everybody for responding to my other post.

I was not able to get to a LLMD so took my son to an Infectious Disease Specialists instead. I hope he's being treated properly.

I'm still confused how to do these posts. I was suppose to change the subject of my previous post but wasn't able to get here to attempt that.

I've been consumed with finding help for my son. He was diagnosed in the beginning of February and today I found out he has another tick born disease. I didn't catch the name of it.

Anyway, today was the first day he felt ok. I hope it just gets better from here on. He's 14 years old and had such a bad year with "not feeling good" and finally was diagnosed with Lyme in February after a severely swollen knee from a simple fall. They caught it from the fluid in his knee.

I feel relieved at some point because he had a good day finally but starting to wonder if I should have searched further into finding a LLMD. The ones I contacted either were not accepting new patients or were a cash only and I cannot afford that.

I think you should keep trying to inquire about seeing an LLMD. For the most part - there are a few exceptions - infectious disease doctors do not treat Lyme and co-infections adequately.

You could also check with area support groups listed with Support Groups to the left - click on United States, CT, and also other nearby states.

You can also ask to be added to your free state online Lyme chatsite at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/connecticutlyme and discuss there.

Yes, I agree with Robin123 - your dear son needs to be evaluated and treated by a LLMD. Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment.

You are doing fine with the postings. One of the moderators corrected the title of your original post so it was taken care of.

When you write a post, please break then up into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who have neurological problems from Lyme and cannot read large blocks of text. Thanks.

I completely understand your statement about "being consumed with finding help for my son." It took 6 YEARS just to find out what was wrong with my son and when he started treatment with a LLMD, he got better.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/connecticutlyme

Maybe they can help.

Here is an article for you to read entitled, "Two Standards of Care" which will explain LLMDs vs ID doctors:

There are a few infectious diseases doctors who do treat tickborne diseases better, but they are rare, and we can't tell from what you said whether you have found one of those rare ones. What has me worried is that he seems to have been sick a long time. Those are the cases that don't get treated long enough by ID docs. So, take the treatment, but if it stops before the symptoms do, or the symptoms return, you need to move on.

It is encouraging that this doc seems to have a second infection, probably babesiosis is my guess. Feel free to post in the medical forum to let us know how it is going. If I were you, I would definitely find out the name of that second disease.
