Hi all,
A friend of a family member is in Colorado and needs a LLMD for their child.

Also, does Dr. J still practice in CT? I believe they might be willing to travel, even if only for an initial consultation.

Thanks everyone!

PM sent for CO & MO.

You didn't mention how old the child was. Some Lyme doctors only treat children, others adults, while still others see both. It will help us know which doctor's info to send you.

The child needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. Patients need to go where they are.

Most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

I was told doctors in CO do not treat aggressively enough, because CO is extremely tough on any doctor who does. The medical board is relentless on them. Posters on Lymenet from CO recommend going out-of-state to see a LLMD.

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ColoradoLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. That's a shame to hear about the docs in CO!

Right after posting, I e-mailed my husband to ask the age of the child because I realized that that is key to the referral. The person who is in need of a doc is my husband's cousin's business partner's child (if you can decipher that!), so I am not real rich in details, but I will definitely find out.

My son saw Dr. J many years ago, and he was elderly then, and with all his legal problems, that couldn't have been good on his health!

If it's ok, I can get back to you on the age to see if it makes a difference in doctors. You've definitely provided me with a wealth of info already, and I don't know if the child's age will eliminate some of these possibilities or not.

Thanks SO much for your help! You're an angel to be helping out on lymenet like this...I used to frequent lymenet quite a bit and got a lot of satisfaction from helping others, but I know that it can be quite difficult when you're feeling badly.

I hope you're doing well now!!
I will copy and paste the info to my husband who can then forward to the family.
Thanks so much!!!
