Is anyone seeing or has anyone seen Dr. R? He is now in Lakeland, but used to be in Clearwater. I have an appointment with him in September, but I want to get some feedback about him. This will be the first visit my wife and I are making to a doctor to specificaly address Lyme. My wife has been suffering from 'thyroid problems', 'depression', etc. that have been getting worse for years. She has been on thyroid/adrenal support drugs for about a year now but things are only nominally better.
I strongly suspect that I gave her Lyme through sex (we have been together for 9 years - I grew up running around the woods in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and I know I pulled ticks off me as a kid).
I have had some strange health issues over the years, nothing too major but things that just didn't add up. However, about 2 years ago, we were at a wooded beach (Ft. Desoto) and a few days later I got the classic bullseye rash, which lasted for about a month.
I didn't know anything about Lyme, and just ignored it, figuring it was eczema or something. But starting about a year ago, my 'strange health issues' started getting worse, and there have been a slew of new symptoms.
The worst has been a steadily increasing fatigue that is debilitating. I went to a shrink who tried me on meds for narcolepsy, depression, etc. and now has me on Lamictal for bi-polar. But of course it is not helping much. I got an MRI and an EEG, but the neurologist told me up front he didn't believe it was Lyme, and the MRI and EEG confirmed it for him.
I have been to several other doctors down here in Florida, and none of them believe it could possibly be Lyme (this is the state where Wyatt Sexton's insurance company is refusing to pay for his Lyme treatment from what I have heard).
I even went to an ID doctor who put me on 150mg a day of doxycylcin for 2 weeks, basically to humor me.
I hate the feelings of self-doubt that I am experiencing. I don't want to believe that I am a hypochondriac or that this is all in my head.
But on the 'Symptoms of Lyme Disease' checklist from www.canlyme.com/patsymptoms.html, I have/had, in varying degrees, 37 of the symptoms plus 7 other items that I wrote down that seem to fit the profile. My wife has a similar number, with a different range of symptoms (some overlap of course).
Meanwhile, it is only my pure stubborn pigheadedness that keeps me going and functioning every day.
All of my research over the last 4 months or so keeps pointing to Lyme as the culprit.
I would *love* for my wife and I to be able to spend a full day being awake and clear headed again!
Does anyone have any other recomendations, comments, suggestions, etc. about Florida LLMDs?
Thank you for your time and support.
