I live in Missouri near the Kansas border. I am having trouble with my veterinarian who appears to be ignorant about infections.
My dog had a huge swollen lymph node and he gave her a steriod shot (without my knowledge or permission) and did surgery to remove the lymph node which killed her. My other dog, who is still living, had a similar large mass removed previously. At the time of that surgery, the vet said it was a lipoma.
However, after the surgery that killed my dog, that vet said it looked like a massive infection. They are running tests. I do not want to take my dog back to that ignorant vet but do not know how to find one that understands about infections and tick borne diseases.
I asked that vet why they didn't test my dogs for bartonella and she said they can't test a live dog for bartonella. Any advice on how to find a knowlegeable vet is appreciated.
Btw - please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme.
To do this click the pencil/paper icon, make your changes, then click "Edit Post". Thanks.

Edits made. Thanks. I did not even think to check with the local support group. I will do that.

Maybe try contacting vet schools and see if someone has ideas on how you could find one. Or find some on-line vet journal articles on tick-borne diseases and contact the authors to see if they know who you could contact.
