a friend of mine has been suffering of the Lyme disease for the last 2 years. He undertook therapy and everything was fine (so far). The problem is: the symptoms have come back - and he is working in Mexico City right now, being unable to come back to his doctors in Germany.
Does any of you folks know a good doctor in Mexico City?
Id appreciate your help a lot!
Thanks and bye,
Felix

No. I know of someone on the board who was from Mexico, but she traveled to Houston for treatment. That dr is no longer in practice.
You're a good friend! Tell your friend to get some antibiotics there. We have folks from the states who travel to Mexico to get their meds. He could contiue to take the same meds he was on in Germany, most likely.
Good luck!!

Hi I lived in Mexico City for 20 years and no one knew what that bright round rash was on my stomach. I went to my gastro,dermatologist,gynocologist- and no one seemed to either worry or know about it. Bad mistake- Your friend could probably look into the bigger, more affluent hospitals for help Hospital Ingles (ABC Hospital) Hospital Angeles en Santa Fe
You never know about the military hospitals and the larger research hospitals toward the south of the city. El Hospital Militar- most of my docs. were military and were excellent. Hospital de la Raza Centro Medico and the specialty hospitals down by Tasquena,UNAM- I know the Cancer hosptial is down there and I believe there's other specialized hospitals as well.
Had I of know that I had Lyme Disease when I lived there, I'm sure in one way or another I would have found a specialist- if not in Lyme, an ID willing to help. Since antibiotics and just about everything else, can be bought OTC, maybe even a good family doctor would be willing to medicate as long as your friend do your research and is willing to "educate" them about Lyme Disease in the process.
I hope this helps and good luchk.
If your friend needs any more help, just let me know.

I agree with Jo3. My experience in Mexico is that doctors, in general, don't have much of the M(edical)D(iety) complex that many here do and are much more willing to be educated. Also, Doctors there tend to liberal in prescribing antibiotcs. Prior to diagnosis, I went to a local doctor at a pharmacy (a common practice) for a sore throat. After taking a careful history he said "there is something bigger wrong with you but I don't know what it is. He prescribed Rocephin (Cephtriaxone) IM for fie consecutive days for the sore throat. You would rarely, if ever, see that here. Good news is that antibiotics tend to be much less expensive. For example, generic Bicillin LA costs about $2.50 per dose. It can be very effective, especially taken concurrently with a macrolide such as Clarithromycin. I do know of a general physician in Toluca who is a friend of the family. If worse comes to worse, he might be able to help.
