I have just been diagnosed with Lyme disease by my rheumatologist. Ten years ago I had knee swelling and pain, went to Dr. L and had tests done (including Lyme). Lyme test was negative and she started treating me for rheumatoid arthritis. It has been under control except for one time when off medication for pregnancy. Well this time I swelled up and the meds were not working. We tested again for Lyme and once again it was negative in the blood. We also test my synovial fluid in the knee and that was positive. I am now on antibiotics (4 days in) and desperately waiting for the swelling to go down. I am going in to the MD to have the knee drained again because I can not walked or bend my knee. I don't think I have any other symptoms, but who knows. I don't know if my synovial fluid was lyme positive 10 years ago? I have had 2 kids since then and are they affected? I am searching for an LLMD in the DC metro area who is also familiar with arthritis. My concern is that my MD is treating me appropriately.

WElcome!

Unless your MD treats tons of Lyme patients, I would go elsewhere for quality care.

I'm amazed that this rheumie actually tested you for Lyme.... not once but twice [or was it 3?].

It will take a long time for you to recover since this has likely gone on for 10 yrs. And Yes, I would get the kids tested.

Do they show any symptoms??

I'll PM you with some names.
