Hi, I am looking for a Lyme literate doctor in the Pensacola, FL area. Even if I have to drive a few hours, that's ok. If anyone could email me any suggestions, that'd be great. In 2007 I thru-hiked the AT and while I was on the trail I had many symptoms of lyme and tried to get help, but none of the doctors in the town would help b/c I wasn't one of their patients. I had extreme pain in my neck, any movement in my head or neck was extremely painful. I'd wake up in extreme pain and a fever. Just before this episode I felt exhausted and sick (but thought it was just from the constant hiking) and then it turned into the symptoms I listed above. These symptoms lasted a few weeks. The extreme stiff neck finally went away, but I still felt exhauseted and like a had the flu. A few weeks later my jaw joints became extremely stiff and felt swollen, making it impossable for me to close my mouth and put my top and bottom teeth together, making it difficult to eat. It would effect one side, then the other, going back and forth from left to right side jaw joints. Then finally all most of this went away. I think all of this lasted from PA to CT...PA to CT of backpacking, not driving...probably about a month to a month and a half of off and on symptoms. Before all of this occured I had numerous ticks on me in the Shanandoah's of VA. I haven't had symptoms like these since November of 2007, so I haven't been too worried, but would still like to get checked out and get it taken care of if I do have Lyme, so that it doesn't flare up later. I'm afraid that the doctors in FL do not know much about lyme, and since I'm not experiencing symptoms right now, they'll just blow me off. Anyway, thanks for your help. I appreciate it. Cheers, Carie
