Just diagnosed... Probably late term Lyme. My insurance is maxed out, which was a limited benefit policy anyway. I am afraid this will bankrupt me.

Is there a Doc near that will be involved in any programs that will help pay for IV treatments ?

Thanks

I am so scared about the cost and I need info on how long this treatment takes and how much $$$

Thanks

Don't automatically assume you will need IV to get rid of chronic lyme. I had lyme, babesiosis, and bartonella for at least 5 years, if not 10, and I got rid of all of these diseases on oral antibiotics only.

Of all of my friends and acquaintances that have had lyme, only one was given IV treatment. Everyone else regained their health with oral antibiotics only.

Regarding length of treatment, that will vary person to person. So, nobody can tell you how long it will take for you to get well. Consider 1 year of treatment to be the minimum length of time for chronic lyme (sick at least 1 year). Many people get well in 1 year, in my personal experience. Some take 2 years.

This all assumes that you get to a top-notch lyme doctor who follows the Burrascano lyme treatment guidelines. Find them here, and study them:

http://www.ilads.org/files/burrascano_0905.pdf

If you go to a lesser doc, you could be in treatment for a long, long time and not get well. With this illness, you really get what you pay for. So, I advise you to go to a doc with a lot of expertise and a good track record of success.

I know an excellent lyme doc (practice is exclusively lyme disease) in the Baltimore area. It is NOT cheap. Let me know if you are interested in further info on this doc.

It started with a blurry spot in vision, got brain MRI which was OK. Opth. doc is now referring me to my Family doc. He suggested a spinal tap to see if it progressed to my central nervous system. If so, IV's should be used, so I have read. My appt is Monday with family doc.

Shouldn't family docs be familiar with Lyme ?
There is a specialist within 50 miles of me.. Wonder if it would be better just to go see him first.

I guess I should wait for spinal tap.
You said oral AB could last for 1 year ??? Holy cow..
I read maybe 8 weeks...
Thanks for your reply..

hi mike,

NO SPINAL TAPS if possible!!!

NO INFECTIOUS DRS; they don't believe in chronic lyme and treat for 3 wks. and under ... thus you become CHRONIC LYME!

mike, check your profile for penn. names! [Smile]
good luck!
glad you found us! [group hug] [kiss]
