I live near Grand Rapids, MI. I saw a local LLMD for a few months, then started traveling to MO to see an LLMD who was recommended to me.
Over the past 1.5 years, I have taken the oral abx (different one each month) and was ready to start IV through the local LLMD (per the instructions from the MO LLMD), but he had heart failure 2 weeks ago. It was terrible - he helped so many people, not just those with Lyme but offered alternative care to the community. He was needed here, and will be missed.
Since IV is the next step, I wondered if there was anyone else around here who would do it. The local LLMD's office is still being operated by PAs, but they won't start anyone new on IV unless it is ordered by another doctor. And the MO LLMD won't order it unless I see him every month. With my husband out of work right now, I can't do it.
I lost continuing disability from the insurance company because my LLMD would not complete the forms unless I saw him once a week, and the doctors that had been with me since the beginning are no longer here. I still have SSD, and will continue to need it as long as I am sick. So far, nothing has helped and I have continued to get sicker. (bullseye rash in 98, no symptoms until 12/02, diagnosis of Lyme 5/07). Do any LLMDs fill out disability forms?
Another predicament is doctors, in general. In the past year, two of my doctors retired, one moved several states away and the other passed away. I face the predicament of having to find a new primary care doctor and neurologist. I'm having a lot of trouble finding the strength to start from the beginning with new doctors.
I know it sounds like I am asking too much but I'm so frustrated with this. Even if you can recommend an LLMD that I have to travel a bit to see (3-4 times a year if more than 8 hours away), if she or he will order IV antibiotics, the local office here will handle it. And if that LLMD also completes disability forms, that would be great.
Thank you so much for your help.
