I am seeking information on behalf of my wife.

We currently see a LLMD.

He has been great and is one of the best doctors my wife and I have ever been to.

That being said he is 3.5 hours away.

Does anyone know of a GP or a pain management

specialist or anyone that can help in the Austin
area.

We don't necessarily need a LLMD but we need someone that can help if my wife needs to go to the hospital or needs pain management.

Right now we have to drive 3.5 hours if she needs emergency care.

The last time I took her to the hospital here in town they said she didn't have Lyme and removed all of her treatments for lyme.

She spent 6 days in the hospital and left in worse condition than when she went in.

So much for do no harm.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bill

Welcome; i'm so glad you found us!! You've come to the right place for education and support!

Dr. Burrascano's most recent "Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guidelines for Lyme and Other Tick Borne Illnesses" @
http://www.ilads.org/burrascano_0905.html
suggests that you discuss with your doctor continuing treatment until you are symptom free for 2 months.

this link, making the most of your LLMD visit, may help you also.

financial burdens compiled by melanie reber
pages 74 - 92; outstanding info there.

also in my table of contents, for FINANCIAL BURDENS, i believe there are a few more general comments there without links!! print that off too as it's newer info from members thru their own personal, tragic experiences.
thoughts and prayers headed your way..

POSTING GUIDELINES

When you post or reply, please break up your solid, continuous block text [Smile] welcome to the board! many of us have neuro lyme where we can NOT read long solid block text and be able to comprehend and read it as is.

please edit your post by CLICKING PAPER/PENCIL ICON to right of your name. that opens up BOTH subject line and body text.

now please break up your WORDY SENTENCES into one sentence paragraphs. Then hit ENTER KEY ``THREE`` after each paragraph; we need that space for comprehension.

if you are NOT a wordy person, you can do 2 or 3 total ok. do this for your entire post.

NOTE: you do NOT have to use "", just show the name of person you are responding to, and then type your comment.

IF you need to use "", PLEASE DELETE "BOLD" CODES so it's regular type text we read vs. the DARK, HARSH/PAINFUL BOLDING.

specifically, delete the first 4 characters of 2ND LINE of a ""

[QB] just delete these 4 characters, and BOLDING is GONE! my eyes will really appreciate that; it's one very bad side effect of my having lyme for 38.5 years!! xox

then go to left hand corner and mark box to receive ALL REPLIES, and click EDIT SEND

we thank you for helping us; [Wink] otherwise, we will SOB, SCROLL ON BY, since we can't read to help you. If I see posts like this, I SOB them; to hard on me.

I'd love to have the name of a Lyme Disease specialist in Austin, too, please.

I was clinically diagnosed over a year ago... a rash, environmental exposure, fever, exhaustion, sorta textbook, really. Went on doxy and got much, much better. Still on it, and have been advised by GP to find someone to help manage the antibiotic treatment in a way to, hopefully, get rid of the bug altogether.

And we do have the vectors here. (One MD told me "there is no Lyme Disease in this area." And we're in Texas, dude! Needless to say, he lost credibility with me, instantly.)

When I finally found an infectious disease specialist in Austin a few weeks ago, he ran a cbc, then shot me on over to a hemotologist who ran another. That doc's best guess was chronic myeologenous leukemia (no surprise since he is an oncologist), and I am convinced the results are a leukemoid reaction to the bacterial infection, not leukemia. Oncologist is pushing hard for bone marrow biopsy, but at $10,000. I'm passing, thanks. All I really want is a qualified MD who'll help me manage this and continue abx to get rid of this bug.

(To be on the safe side, I have agreed to monthly blood tests. If it's CML, the white count should go up, I understand.)

I understand there is a good MD in Houston, but it's a haul and if I could just find one who knows something about LD in the Austin/San Antonio area, it would be wonderful. The infectious disease doc and the hemotologist both freely confess they know nothing about Lyme Disease.

Is there any way I can get the Austin LD specialist's name, please? I'd be so grateful.

Thank you.

Thank you so much for the information.

An FYI you may not know about, the Texas Medical Board has information online about every MD licensed to practice in Texas. I always use that information to help me understand the educational background and possibly other information about an MD I'm considering.

According to the TX Med Board, one of the physicians on your list has a suspended license...I was sure you'd want to know this.

The URL for the site is: http://www.tmb.state.tx.us/
In the menu on the left, you can select "Services for Consumers" and under that, "Find Your Physician." I have found this helpful in the past, and think most states probably maintain similar information online.

Hope this helps someone else. This particular license suspension may be the board flexing muscles, but until that's all sorted out I'll give that MD a pass for now. I'm very appreciative of your assistance in my search and thank you for pointing me in good directions.

Thank you, again.

Most LLMD's are NOT liked by medical boards, plain and simple. If they're a good LLMD, they're probably going to be "in trouble" at one point or another when it comes to medical boards.

For TX... try Denton or the DR F in Louisiana...or Dr C in MO.
