Zach, this is not a $25 co-pay situation.
Just want to let you know, most lyme docs don't take insurance. You pay out of pocket and then see if your insurance will reimburse you for part of the cost.
A first visit with a good lyme doc in this area costs about $425. Then, to get Igenex testing for lyme, babesiosis, and bartonella will cost you about $600. Igenex is the best tick-borne disease lab in the country and they don't take insurance either. So, you pay up front for the tests and then file a claim for reimbursement with your insurance.
So, you are looking at about $1,000 for the first visit. You get about 1 1/2 hrs of the doc's time as he/she carefully questions you about all of your symtoms.
You see, no lyme test is 100% accurate, so lyme disease is diagnosed based on your symptoms by a doctor who is familiar with lyme disease.
Have you read the Burrascano lyme disease treatment guidelines? Suggest you do so. Also, look at his symptom list (pages 9-10) and see how many you have.
If you have quite a few symptoms, it is likely you do have lyme disease.
If you decide to see a lyme doc, expect a difficult time getting in with them. They often are not taking new patients. If you find a less experienced one, you may get in, but then you won't have the expertise of the best.
Expect at least a 2 month wait for first appt.
If you decide to pursue this, let me know and I will send you some names of good docs near you.
I had undiagnosed lyme disease for 10 years. Symptoms just get worse and worse until you finally don't have much life. But, this can take years and year.
Send me a private message if you want to discuss further.
It is possible to get your blood tested by Igenex without a lyme doctor. Go to Igenex.com website and get the details. You will need to find a doc willing to do this for you. You send for the test kit, order the Western Blot IgG and IgM tests for lyme, have the doc draw the blood on a Monday or Tues and follow blood preparation instructions (he can't let the blood sit around), and send in your $200 payment.
The doc who orders the Igenex test will get the test results. Get a copy from him. Then, read "Dr. C's Western Blot Explanation" at the top of Medical Questions forum to learn how to interpret the results.
A regular doc may interpret the results as negative for lyme but if you follow Dr. C's instructions, you may determine you actually have a positive result.
You can also post your Western Blot results here and we will help you interpret them.
This is the cheapest way to get Igenex testing for lyme disease.
