I like to have a glass of wine when i go out to dinner. I have not started treatment yet, but i was wondering if you have to give up alcohol all together?
I am not an alcoholic or anything. I have maybe one or two glasses a week. I guess it depends on which antibiotics your on.
So, whats the deal? I feel terrible all the time and its like cant i at least have a glass of wine with dinner (whenever i feel well enough to go out that is).
I have used the search function but couldnt find any posts about it.

It really depends on what meds you are on. Some medications (Flagyl, for example) will make you very sick if you drink with it.

Like it was said before, it depends on the antibiotic. I'm also new to this but I like to occasionally have a glass of wine or a couple of beers at a BBQ when I am well enough to get out. My tolerance has gone down and I do get headaches sometimes so I do keep that in mind. I'm on amoxicillin and have had no negative reacion but have heard that you cannot drink any alcohol on flagyl or you get really sick.

I agree with what was said in the first response about which med you are on. When in doubt ask your pharmacist. I'm also fairly new with this and on amoxicillin and can have a glass of wine or a couple beers when I feel well enough to get out. Keep in mind that Lyme can lower your tolerance and I get headaches after alcohol sometimes so just pay attention. Flagyl will definatly make you sick. Good luck! Amanda

Lyme and antibiotics are hard on the liver. This is why many of us take the supplement milk thistle. Ideally, one should abstain from all alcohol completely. If that seems too drastic , maybe you could cut back to one or two drinks a month.

JB,
I am on the low carb diet, and that includes no alcohol. Some people are on diets to help with lyme symptoms. Others, like me, are on the diet to prevent yeast overgrowth.
I had yeast problems years ago when I was on 2 months of abx. So I'm not taking any chances now.
I was actually a vegetarian for 14 years, and had to start eating meat for the diet. I personally felt I could not follow the diet in a healthy way as a vegetarian, but others do.
I have noticed a big difference in my muscle strength and skin. I don't think it's one thing, but a combination of increased protein, animal protein, lots of raw food, less processed food, lack of sugar and being on thryoid meds.

Like you, I enjoyed having a glass of wine at dinner. I'm speaking of wine in the past tense because I have stopped drinking altogether. I found that prior to really beginning steady treatment, that one glass of wine would give me a 'buzz' and I'd feel like I was starting to get drunk! It wasn't a pleasant feeling at all. I do think it was the ketes having a wild party at my expense!
Once I started abx, I stopped totally. Alcohol is a huge yeast contributor, so that went out of my diet. I try to watch carbs because I'm a real carb junkie too. I'm not as disciplined as many here, but I do restrict myself.
I understand that the meds I'm taking now, if you drink while taking it, they act like antibuse and make you very very sick. Being somewhat contrary, I decided to test it out. I had a sip of a beer my husband was drinking one night - nausea and sweats!!!!And that was with just a sip!!!
Stay off the 'juice' - your body will thank you! cootiegirl
