I'm wondering what I should do about the depression I'm feeling.
Lately I don't even want to get out of bed in the morning, take a shower or leave my house. I see dust on the furniture but don't feel like dusting. I don't even want to answer the phone.
I was on Zoloft many years ago during a serious family crisis and it helped but I hated the side effects.
What are any of you taking for depression due to this Lyme curse?
I'm seeing my doctor next week and really need to be informed about what works with the least side effects. I have to be informed ahead of time because once I'm in the doctor's office my mind goes blank. I have to write everything down before I get there. Sound familiar?!!
Thanks
Lidia

Lidia,

So sorry to hear of your emotional struggle. It's bad enough we have to deal with the cognitive and physical pain this disease causes, but the emotional pain seems to makes everything worse.

There have been some posts on Medical regarding psychological issues and what people take.

If you do a search for depression - it is located just underneath the post reply button- I'm sure you'll find some immediate answers.

I have struggled with anxiety, and after diagnosis really did get depressed. Once I started feeling better the depression and anxiety lifted (it took about 6-8 weeks).

My doctor did prescribe lexapro, which works for both anxiety and depression. I have not taken it yet, but if those symptoms return I will most definitely start it.

I hope others will have some ideas.

Regarding doctor appointments - I too must write everything down, so I remember.

Take care.

Smiles

PS - Ironically I registered on lymenet with this screen name on a day I just couldn't stop crying.

Hi Lidia...I'm sorry you're feeling so low. It's VERY common with Lyme. Are you taking flagyl by any chance? That drug can REALLY make you depressed, as can others. Which meds are you on? [abx?]

I think the "older" anti-depressants are the safest. I take trazadone, which makes you very sleepy and for some people causes morning fog, but it doesn't seem to bother me much in that regard.

The tri-clyclic anti-depressants are the class of drugs I'm referring to. Ask your LLMD about trying them.

Let us know how you're doing, OK?? I don't see how any Lymie can get through treatment without anti-depressants, but I suppose there are some lucky ones!

Hi Lidia,
I'm sorry your not doing well too. My doctor has me on Zoloft in the morning and Trazadone to help sleep.

He tried Wellbutrin and Lexapro but I am very med sensitive and can't take much. I also take Tramadol for the pain.

I have side effects with the Zoloft also but I deal with them because it does help with the depression.

He gave me some Ativan when I went on a plane trip for anxiety and that really helped. Maybe you could ask for it.

Hope this helps, good luck.

------------------
Sue.
