I saw my doctor yesterday and she switched me from Amoxy to Biaxin. I had been taking Amoxy for about 6 months and the herx was pretty bad for a while.
Now that I'm taking a new med, should I expect more herxing?
Also, she put me on 10 mg of Lexapro. Are any of you taking this and does it help with the depression? What are the side effects? Thanks. Lidia

It is good to see that your doctor is switching medications. Sometimes the bacteria becomes immune to a certain antibiotic, so it is quite wise to switch around and that's why doctors play around with doses and amounts.
It is important that you keep a record of how you are feeling and what you are taking. Try to jot it all down on a journal of some sort.
Good luck!

Cave76, I just got diagnosed with Chronic Lyme and I'm taking Biaxon. I have mostly joint and muscle pain and some brain fog. I think I've had Lyme for a little over a year, but who can be sure. I was glad to hear that Biaxon helped you. Posts: 62 | From Northwestern, VA, USA | Registered: Jun 2004

When I was on clarithromycin ('biaxin'), it was WITH amoxicillin. This was a very effective combi (1g/6g per day) for me. I didn't have too much side effect trouble with this combi, either. (took yarrow, lots of acidophilus, and psyllium husk powder to help counter the side effects and prevent yeast). Good luck with it. DaveS

Thanks for your encouragement with the Biaxin. As far as the Lexapro, I'm having some lousy side effects. I'm overwhelmingly exhausted, have constant headaches and sweats. I'm thinking it's not worth it since the Lyme alone is enough to cope with. I don't need the added fatigue and discomfort.
I'd like to have a somewhat normal life and be able to get out of the house once in a while without worrying about falling asleep at the wheel. Any thoughts on this? Lidia
