my sister has been diagnosed with late stage lyme.

she has an appt with a LLMD ( aug 30th) only because i forced her to call...

she took the abx for 4 days and got really sick..vomiting, major headaches.

she backed off what i thought would be a day

but now she is not taking the abx at all....she said she feels fine now
she said she can not go thru that again!!!!

i have tried over and over to get her to listen to me....the danger of letting it go..

she has always been one not to want to feel pain..if she is not taking excedrin or other meds to feel no pain then she is miserable...she has headaches to begin with everyday...

i just wondered if anyone had any articles of fatal lyme cases..sadly i think it is the only way..i think she thinks it is like a cold and will go away...

she is also bi-polar...way before lyme..so she is not very rational...

sorry for long post...just frustrated.

Oh, Amy, sorry that your sis is not being rational at this point! At least you have her going to the LLMD....take her kicking and screaming if you have to, do not let up.
After that, I do not know what to tell you.

Wish ROSESISLAND would get on and tell her story of all the symptoms leading up to her FINALLY being diagnosed. I think she is busy today, but will surely give you some info.

I have told myself that I can not educate everyone about this, I have to make them aware, but leave it alone. It makes me sad when I am so affected by it, not only with myself, but my mom and 2 girls.

It hurts to see your family members not take it serious. Because you know the effects it has on ones body.

I bet you can get thru to her. Wish you well, and please let us know how it goes at the LLMD. ok?

Amanda

I go thru this with my mother and her asthma medicine. She goes off of it and gets deathly ill.

It infurates me.

I tell my mom that she should get on her knees and thank G-d for every pill she puts in her mouth. That she is fortunate to be able to afford it and fortunate to live in a country where it is available. And fortunate enough to have a physician who will perscribe it.

In the mid 80's and 90's, I noticed that whenever I took abx they made me sick.

I also noticed that docs were telling me I had a bacteria in my urine but didn't always have symptoms of a urinary infection as they thought.

They would prescribe the abx for me and make a follow up appointment.

I would keep the follow up appointment but not take the drug. Who likes to take something that makes you sick?

I kept thinking it was how the tests were performed that was the problem. I also thought if I did test positive again then I would take the abx.

They then would test my urine again assuming I had taken the meds and low and behold, I was told my urine was fine.

The point here is that I too got to the point that I would not take abx as I noticed that everytime I did they made me feel worse than I was before taking them.

I now know why. But didn't then.

It is good that your sister is going to see the LLMD.

But, if she is like me... the more you push her, the more stubborn she will be.

My bet is that when she gets to the doc, everything will work out.

amyb...

I have been through this with my own family and I still am. You cannot force anyone to take care of themselves. It's like when someone has a drug problem for example... they have to want to help themselves first. I know it's VERY hard to see someone being so ignorant and, sorry to say, stupid with their health and their future health but we have to let go.

You need to focus on yourself and find it inside yourself to be strong and just be there for her. Maybe someday she will be ready and in the meantime your best bet is to stay on her good side. This way she will feel free to come to you later. If she never comes, then that is how it is going to be. We have to try to focus on ourselves.

I can't tell you how many tears I've cried and how many worry lines I've made for family members who are so clueless. But it is my choice to feel pain for them in the end.

I wish you all the best in this horrible situation!! I know how it feels!
