I JUST RECENTLY GOT DIAGNOSED WITH THIS DISEASE. MY RIGHT SIDE OF MY FACE & MY RIGHT HAND HAD BEEN NUMB FOR 3 WEEKS AND I WAS SEVERLY TIRED. I WENT TO THE ER, HAD A CATSCAN - NOTHING, THEN WENT TO THE NUEROLOGIST, HAD A MRI - NOTHING. SEVERAL DOCTORS THOUGHT I HAD MS. ONE DOCTOR ONLY CHECKED FOR ANEMIA B-12, AND THE RESULTS CAME BACK NEGATIVE, AND SHE SAID THATS ALL SHE KNEW TO DO. THEN I WENT TO ANOTHER DOCTOR WHO I ASKED TO CHECK EVERYTHING IN MY BLOOD, IT CAME BACK THAT I HAD LYMES DISEASE. I JUST REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. I AM ON DOXY FOR 10 DAYS, WILL I NEED MORE MEDICINE, AND WILL HAVE SYMPTOMS THE REST OF MY LIFE? I AM STILL NUMB, AND STILL TIRED, BUT NOT AS TIRED AS I WAS. I CANNOT DO LITTLE THINGS WITH MY RIGHT HAND I GUESS BECAUSE OF MY JOINTS OR ARTHRITIS. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW WHATS AHEAD FOR ME IN THE FUTURE! THANKS!!!

Milli,

Not to scare ya or anything, but 10 days of doxy very often does not cure lymes disease,ESEPECIALLY if you have had it any length of time. How long have you had symptoms? Where do you live? If I were you I would post in Looking for a doctor section of lymenet and get a name of a LLMD (lyme litterate medical doctor) in your area for treatment. A majority of Dr.s have no Idea how to treat this and if you go back to most after short course of treatment and say your still sick, many dr. will look at you like your crazy n tell you its all in your head. If you caught this early and you treat it properly with enough meds then your chances of recovery are aften very good. Also to help your self along, exersize when you can, without overdoing it, get good rest, drink lots of water, take a good multivitamin, Steer clear of Sugar and keep other carbs low. The bacteria do not like oxygen or heat and they feed on sugar n so does yeast. There are also other things some on here do in the natural that help alot. You will find a wealth of information from the good people here on lymenet. Keep posting and keep us posted.

Take Care,
BarelyB

WELCOME To LYMENET

Here's more goodys! A typical response to newcomers.

Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.

Post for a LLMD in Seeking a Doctor. Ps remember I am not a Dr, just a fellow sufferer.

I LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES, IN CROWLEY, TEXAS. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE NUMBNESS FOR 3 WEEKS, BUT I COULD HAVE HAD OTHER SYMPTOMS FOR A LONG TIME AND OVERLOOKED THEM. I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHEN I COULD HAVE GOTTEN IT, BECAUSE THE LAST TIME I GOT BITTEN BY A TICK WAS WHEN I WAS LITTLE, AND I AM 25 YEARS OLD.

Hi Milli,
Welcome to LymeNet. So sorry you're having problems but I'm glad you found this site.

Print "Diag Hints & Treat Guidelines..." at www.ilads.org/burrascano_1102.htm
It's 32 pages of excellent info by one of the very best Lyme Literate Med Drs (LLMDs).

page 16: Antibiotic choices
Doxycycline - Adults: 100 mg qid with food
(400 mg a day)

pages 17-18: Treatment Categories
Early Disseminated Disease: "Milder symptoms present for less than 1 yr..."
Adults: Oral therapy until no active disease for 4 weeks.
Some are now saying antibiotics until NO symptoms for 6-8 weeks.

Once established in the system, this bacteria can be difficult to get rid of.
The earlier the treatment, the better the results - but ONLY if treatment is adequate.

Since you're having symptoms, you need to be sure your dose is strong enough each day & you take it for 6 to 8 weeks after ALL symptoms are gone.

Be sure to take Acidophilus to replenish the good bacteria that is killed along with the bad bacteria.
See pages 24 & 29 (Dr B's Guidelines)

Always try to have 2 hours between the antibiotics (abx) & the acidoph - before & after - or it won't be able to work as well.
It's easier to prevent a systemic yeast infection rather than have to treat one.

"Symptoms of LD" - you may find you have symptoms that you didn't realize could be caused by Lyme. www.ocean-beach.com/_tick/tick_lymesymp.htm
No spaces: 'underline' before & after 'tick'

Don't know where you are in Texas, but there are a couple LLMDs in your state.
Go to Seeking a Dr here on LymeNet & put your location in the title (maybe the closest large city - like Dallas, Houston).

Had an interruption.
Hope this info is not a repeat.
