Your son's symptoms sound very familiar. Don't kick yourself over not catching it sooner - many of us here don't even recall a tick bite.

Even if his test comes back negative, I would suggest getting him to a LLMD as soon as possible. There are many reasons why a Lyme test could come back negative - #1 being what type of test that was run and what lab ran it. If it was a PCR or Eliza, please don't discount a Lyme diagnosis, even if it's negative. A much more accurate (but still not definative) test would be a Western Blot, run by IgeneX (in CA). A regular doctor wouldn't be running lab tests through them - you need to find an LLMD.

NJ is rampant with Lyme. Another thing to consider is coinfections - you can pick up numerous other infections from a tick bite - Bartonella, Babesiosis, Erlichiosis, or Mycoplasma. Your son also needs to be tested and evaluated for these. It's still pretty early, so proper treatment now could bring about resolution of symptoms after a few months (hopefully) of treatment, although everyone is different.

You can post on 'Seeking a Doctor' and include your region and that you're looking for a pediatric doctor. I go to a great LLMD here in NJ, but it's best if you get a pediatric LLMD.

Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.
