I am a new meber here. I was diagnosed and treated for lyme about 16 years ago. I lived on the east end of Long Island and knew a lot of people with it. I went for almost two years before the docs could fiqure out what it was. I went thru a lot of different treatments. Latley I feal like it is starting all over again. All the aches and pains are back. Is it possable after all this time to have a relapse? Has anyone had this happen? will a blood test for lyme always show posative once you have/had it? Should I go to the doctor and get a blood test? Not really sure what to do. The way I have been fealing for the last few weeks feels like it did years ago. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, or a reinfection. Or both.
Has anyone had this happen? There have been plenty with this happen. Its the first time around for me.
will a blood test for lyme always show posative once you have/had it? Not necessarily
Should I go to the doctor and get a blood test? Depends. What kind of doctor? Where you treated by a lyme doctor sixteen years ago? I tend to think maybe you werent? Theres a seeking a doctor forum if you want to post over there to get a doctor.

ditto what COL said. It's critical that you see a lyme-literate doctor, if only to rule out LD and treat for whatever ails you.
Very few labs do reliable blood tests. Igenex, Bowen, and MDL are the reliable only ones I know of. There are lots of missed dx of LD because doctors in general are not Lyme literate, and because they use inappropriate diagnostic techniques (many lymies don't test positive on bloodwork), or do the wrong tests or wrong laboratories.
Really, don't mess around with this. If it is a relapse/reinfection and you catch it early, you'll save yourself serious heartache and mounds of money.
At the bottom of the page is the "Hop to" window. That will take you to Seeking a Doctor, where you can also maybe find a support group, and to Medical, where you can do some more research and get more info.

I am sure you are right. There were so few doctors that knew anything about it. Most just told me I was crazy. Not even sure how many blood test I had, spinal tap. They tried all sorts of oral meds and then a three or four week course of IV. I got so tired of going to doctors that I finally gave up on them. I know over the years I have had other times of symptom return but not like this. Thanks

I have had this disease for 18 years, so I know if can pop up whenver it feels like it. I was not diagnosed until after 16 years, but the lyme always came in cycles either way. I went through a stressful situation in 2002, which brought the lyme out full force affecting my eyesight. That is how I found a lyme doctor. It is best to go to a LLMD now while you suspect lyme. At least an LLMD will know what to do if you have it or will be able to honestly tell you not to worry about lyme. I wish you well in your search! Take care! Lisa

Good evening dornaur,
Welcome to LymeNet, and also to The Colorado Support System!
I'm going to have to make this brief, because my lights are flickering off and on from the sudden snow...
but, I wanted to share with you the new member links, to get you started with information.
Because you have dealt with this disease before, some of this may not be new to you...but, I do hope that you will try to plow through it in order to become your own best advocate!
Would also love to write more to you via email, so please just drop a line if there is anything that we can do to assist you, OK?

WELCOME To LYMENET
Here's more goodys! A typical response to newcomers.
Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.
Post for a LLMD inSeeking a Doctor. Ps remember I am not a Dr, just a fellow sufferer.
( No you don't always see a bite and if there's no bullseye the only way your going to be able to tell is (symptoms) and (((Maybe))) WB or lyme dot blot 3 day urine banged with abx's to free your antigens up for the test. ) See this ( . )thats the size of the larva stage tick... Next nymph size... ( * ) Next is adult ( o ) to ( 0 ) Pretty small????? HUH
