Hello all -
I'm recently new to the diagnosis and almost 3 weeks into my antibiotic and feel like my worst nightmares are starting all over..
Before being diagnosed.. i was being treated for Rheumatoid Arthritis. I finally got my swelling under control and off the prednisone and bextra's and weening off methotrexate.. and now since starting my antibiotic.. i'm swelling up again mostly elbows and hands. And boy oh boy does it hurt at times.. Not only swelling and soreness.. but I'm soooo tired and listless.. Any insight would help me..
Thanks..
Kelly

Have you tried Plaquenil? My doctor gave it to me to reduce swelling, and I've heard it helps the antibiotic work as well.

Sorry to hear you feel so bad. I spent almost a year on Bextra - even with the Vioxx recall, I still say, if you need it, use it. Lyme causes an inflammatory response, so you might need some extra help for a while.

The first few months are THE WORST.... if you need to vent, come back often, ok??

Lymeinhell.. (funny name) and i hope your hell isn't so bad..
Thank you for your encouragement.. I have started the bextra again and hope that the swelling goes down.. After a year of being diagnosed with Rheumatoid and being treated with that.. I was just feeling better (not inflamed) and than I got the positive test for Lymes.. started the antibiotic and now my body is in full attack mode.. and swelled up again.. Not all joints.. mostly arms (shoulders down).. I'm sure it could be worse.. I'm dealing.. but with many tears..
It will all get better.. It has too!

I am really sorry to hear about all the pain as well. I went on lyme treatment in 2002, and I went through the WORST pain after starting abx. Of course it was due to the Herx reactions, but it was quite intense. It does ease up and get better though. I am going to an LLMD in January to start treatments again, so I am really nervous about going through that pain again. I have to admit though that I would rather go through a few months of intense pain in hopes of ridding myself of this crazy disease. Hang in there!
