Hey there...

Yes.. many folks do have eye problems. Many kinds.. many levels of severity. Too many to just start naming them all.

I am not able to do a search for you at the moment.. but if you do one.. type Tincup in the user name section.. in the search function.. and you will see quite a bit of information when the word "eye" is typed in the subject line.

Hope that helps.

PS.. If you post in the medical section instead of here.. you will probably get more responses.

Don't be afraid.. they won't bite...

MUCH!

What type of eye symptoms do most have with Lyme Disease? I have had optic neuritis, retinal vasculitis, uveitis. They say the optic nerves are pale. Any body have similar symptoms? I am on oral ATBX. Would love it if anyone else could share a similar stroy or advise.

Besides not being able to jump in the shower, get dressed and fix breakfast in the am....eye trouble was a problem too.

I had double vision, blurred vision and screen vision(it was as if I was looking through a screen door)

It hurt to use my eyes. It felt as if I had snow blindness.

Looking at the printed word on the page hurt and was impossible to read.

I could swear I had mice or something moving around in the house, but when I looked towards the movement there was nothing there.

Keeping my eyes open was a problem. The eyelids fatigued to quickly.

One day, I couldn't believe all the colors in town. Looking back, I wonder if I had only been seeing shades of gray for a while and didn't realize it.

Constant changes in vision. I use to read every night before going to bed. No more.

I think I have read two novels in the past 3 years. I do have what I call windows of opportunity when I can read.

I also joined a Bible Study with a workbook. We were to read a short chapter in the work book each day. I would go 3 days of being able to complete the assignment and then months of not being able to read.

I have stopped trying to read everyday.

I close my eyes when I type text onto the computer such as this.

I have been taking a variety of abx cocktails but have yet to figure out what to do about the eye problem.

When I first came down sick filling out doctor's forms was next to impossible.

Now, I can pretty much fake it most of the time. My eye sight is not back, but I am able to over ride the vision difficulties and do the best I can in order to get the job done.

Other times....few and far in between....my vision is back and I can address an envelope or even write a short note out long hand.

I also am dealing with hand eye co ordination. Most of the time writing is not an option due to hand/brain stuff.

Lights bother me.

I recall having an adult student who said it hurt his eyes to try and look at the print on the page. I tried colored overlays and other ways to help him out. Nothing helped. Looking back, I wonder if he had lyme disease.

I had another student who would be able to read one time and not the next. Again, I now wonder if she too had lyme disease.

I could never understand why people could not read. Now, I understand.

I do feel there is improvement over the years and hope for continued improvement.

I thought of another eye problem. I sometimes feel as if someone is poking me in the eye with a stick. About the time the pain lets up, the eye starts to water.

It is the strangest thing. I really can't figure out what triggers it.

I have been looking for a covering for my eyes that I have seen people wear on TV at night.

When I take the train to my doctor's appointment, it would help to have one of these at times to block out the light that is hurting my eyes.

I also will be able to read about 3 pages and then have the vision go.

I tried to balance the check book the other day and had blurred vision for a few hours after that.

Needless to say...it is a multitude of problems with me.

Not sure what is going on with you. What ever it is, I hope it goes away soon.

I also recall taking the train to San Francisco for a neuro appointment at UCSF Medical Center.

I stayed at a small hotel on a main street of town.

I walked to the corner to check out the bus stop map in order to figure out what I needed to do the next day to get to the medical center.

I couldn't read the map. I could't figure out what the problem was as other parts of the body were also not functioning.

So, I walked back to the hotel room, stayed down the rest of the day and night.

The next morning, I just asked the bus driver that pulled up which bus to catch.

In some ways, it was as if I was blind but still seeing well enough to fake it in order to get to the hotel room and the cafe next door.

Hi,
I think the eye problems were one of my first symptoms 9 years ago. Of course at that time I was told it was migraines (even though there was no pain) and that I must be losing vision in both eyes when it happened and not just one eye.

I continued to lose vision in one eye from time to time mostly in the evening and mostly while reading.

Then it advanced to where it was happening more often and increasing pain and terrible sensitivity to light.

Eventually it was so excruciating I insisting on seeing the doctor immediately and when he realized the pressure was up very high he was really flustered.

He had been telling me migraines and wouldn't even write the referral to an opthalmalogist.

Well to shorten this story they operated on that eye due to not being able to get the pressure down. Thought that was the end of my eye problems. NOT!

As is turns out is it lyme affecting now both eyes with weakness (can't read for more than a couple minutes), decreased and distorted vision, inflammation, PAIN, and sensitivity to light.

It worsens when I herx of course. Scary thing to have your eyes going.

Still unsure as to what I'll end up with but have faith that my treatment will help at least stop the progression.

I have been to the top neuro-opthalmologists in the state. According to them there is nothing wrong with my eyes.

At one time I had optic neuritis, pale optic nerve, iriditis and something so scary the eye doctor thought I should see a retinologist.

By the time I would get to the 'specialist' though the worst had passed and now I am considered to just have a history of closed angle glaucoma, iriditis(sp?), optic neuritis, and whatever.

Since I was seeing all these different doctors for help my story is scattered. I haven't even been to an opthalmalogist since the lyme diagnosis and I found out what was at the root of the problem.

At this point I don't see the need and they make me mad. If I fear the pressure is up I'll call for an emergency visit. Otherwise I just tough it out with all the other symptoms.

Funny thing about my eyes, though, is that if I try to use them too much then it brings on the other symptoms and the 'sickness'. It is like being held prisoner.

I can see but can't use my eyes. Try explaining that one to SS!

Except for occasional drops for dryness I don't do anything to my eyes. I put a cold mask on for pain and take neurontin which helps a lot. I wear sunglasses everywhere even indoors. My regular glasses are tinted with a blue blocker to cut glare when I'm not wearing the sunglasses.

Okay I'm sure that's way more than you wanted but that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!lol

With me, there is more than just vision problems so it is difficult to figure out what all is going on.

Sometimes it is processing problems. Sometimes it is fatigue. Sometimes the brain is just not working well enough to figure it out.

Most of the time, I just want it to go away.

Lots of eye problems:
photophobia
dryness
blurred vision
light flashes
migraine aura without the migraine
stabbing sensations

At one point I couldn't read, but that cleared up, although I think it was a brain problem, not an eye problem.

Had a vitreous separation, now told to look out for signs of retinal detachment.

Docs I went to all agreed this had happened. Can't be fixed. End of story for them, ho hum. Wonder if they would be so blase if it were happening to them.

Also, earlier on had one pupil a lot larger than the other one.

I had lots and lots of eye probs with Lyme disease - I have educated my eye doc over the years. I just saw him and gave him a really good article from the most recent Opthamology Times. He was grateful and said he would take it to read on the plane as he and his daughter went to check out colleges she might attend.

I have saved several other articles and would be glad to send all to you as attachments to an e-mail.

Just let me know by e-mailing me.

dyplopia
astigmatism

ALTHOUGH I was born partially blind in my right eye and had to wear patches over my GOOD eye so that I could train my right eye to see. Dont know if lyme did it, or I just have bad eyes.

BUT I do know this: I cant see a fricken thing anymore, and even WITH all my problems, I was still able to see.

Shelly, don't know what brought the improvement. Have been on a whole raft of stuff, which all helped to some degree, or for a while, or with one or more symptoms. Couldn't really pin down what brought my brain back.

However, it does play tricks on me still. The other day I was filling out a form with a space for phone number. Without thinking, I plugged in a number I had not used in 8 years, not my current one. If anyone had asked me what that old number was, couldn't have told them!

Plus, some time back I would be reading and an inappropriate word would appear in a sentence. When I put on the brakes and went back to see it, it was gone and now the correct word was there. How odd is this!!

The reading problem I described in my previous post was seeing the words on the page very well (eyes worked) but not knowing what they meant (brain didn't work).
