Sorry ladyraven,

I do not have any good ideas for you, but was pushing this back to the top for some others that might.

Best wishes to you and your grandaughter.

I don't know much about this, but I am throwing this out there. Have you been able to work, b/c if not have you tried applying for disability. My mom is on social security, not from lyme though. Just a thought. BEST OF LUCK!

I don't know what you have in your state. But do you have AFDC. Aid to families with dependent children. If you have had your grandaughter all of her life surely you would qualify for some kind of aid. State Ins. possibly. Like I said I am in another state so I am not sure.

I had temporary custusy of a bipolar child a few years back and I was able to apply and recieve mediciad for him even though my husbands income exeded qualifications. Because he was not our child they did not base him on our income. But we could not add him to our Ins coverage either.

But with your situation you may qualify for coverage for the both of you.

I hope things get better for you and your granddaughter.

Think about contacting your local state Vocational Rehabilitation office. The purpose of Voc Rehab is to provide physicial restoration (medical eval, treatment, medications, therapy, etc), vocational evaluation, and placement, among other things, to help an individual achieve maximum recovery and return to the work force.

I do not know how it would be listed in your state, but this agency would be under Health and Human Services. This is taxpayers $$$, and eligibility for services is determined during the initial eval stage. As long as you have a disabling condition which prevents work, and keeps you from working in either your usual occupation or any occupation, you would be eligible for these services.

If you cannot find the agency I am talking about, post again and I will do some research for you. I used to do this for a living, but in NC. Look in your phone book under state offices and look for some listings which say "vocational rehabilitation" and call for info.

Hope this helps.

Delores,

Are you wondering about how to pay for the visit to the LLMD?

Just to clarify ... Vocational Rehab can actually PAY for medical services. That is why I am recommending that you apply. If a person does not have the funds to pay for medical care, and need this assistance to get back into life, then that is a way they might be able to help.

I would think it would be easy to make a case for seeing a particular doc, the LLMD in that area, since you are needing treatment for Lyme. Provided the LLMD takes Medicaid rates, which is what VR pays. Some docs don't, so ask as many questions as you can.

Good luck...
