Hi all,
Perhaps someone could help me with this. I am writing a play for my homeshcool co-op and I need a small monologue translated into Spanish. I know words like Klingon, Enterprise and such don't translate but that is great because I don't want them to. It adds to the humor to hear an ocassional word that is understood during rant like this. Anyhow I know one of our members is from Mexico I am sure this is something she could tackle it would mean the world to me. The age group is 12 - 17 year olds so keep it clean, but feel free to not give an exact word for word translation.
Here is the monologue:
What do you care? Your all grown up now, little miss "college scholarship" looking for ET in California while your family is here in Florida. Who do you know out there anyhow? Huh? you tell me that young lady. And what's all this nonsense about aliens? I raised you to be a real scientist not chasing science fiction. Next thing you'll be getting married in Vegas on the Bridge of the Enterprise to some guy who only introduced himself by his screen name. I can just see it now all your bridesmaids dressed up like Klingons. Well you have another thing coming if you think I am going to get dressed like a Klingon to go to MY daughter's wedding!
thanks in advance

Qu usted cuida?

I don't know if it's right or wrong, but if you just type a paragraph into one of those sites and it translates the whole thing for you it more than likely won't be right. I don't speak Spanish, but my girlfriend is Mexican and she's always telling me you can't translate things word for word. She says they won't make sense. Just something to look out for. The internet translation is horrendously silly (they usually are). I'm trilingual English/French/Spanish and a professional translator. If not too late, I suggest you use this:
PS: good text. I'd love to see the play!
Qu te importa? Tu ya no eres una nia. Eres otra de esas ``Miss College Scholarship'' que buscan a ET por toda California mientras tu familia se qued atrs en la Florida. Y a quin conoces por all? Huh? Dime jovencita!. Y qu son estas tonteras sobre extraterrestres? Te cri para que seas cientfica algn da, no para que corras atrs de cosas de ciencia-ficcin. Si sigues as, vas a terminar casndote en Las Vegas sobre el puente del ``Enterprise'' con un tipo que se present con su nombre de pantalla. Ya me imagino a las damas de honor vestidas como Klingons. Djame decirte que te estas equivocando si piensas que me voy a vestir de Klingons para la boda de mi hija!

is What matters to you? Your no longer you are a girl. You are another one of those "Miss College Scholarship" that they look for ET by all California while your family remained back in Florida. And whom that way you know? Huh? It tell me youngster. And what are these trivialities on extraterrestrial? I raised to you so that you are scientist someday, so that you do not run back of science-fiction things. If you follow thus, you are going to finish casndote in Fertile valleys on the bridge of the "Enterprise" with a type that appeared with its name of screen. I already imagine to the dressed ladies of honor like Klingons. Djame decirte that these mistaking to you if you think that I am going away to dress Klingons for the wedding of my daughter!

One more proof that Babel is OK for single entry translation (although it doesn't recognize a good 20% of single entries), definitely not for anything that's constructed.
I used to test automated translation software. There's not a single one that will give you an average 70% match on a phrase. That's why we people still have a job.
