Hi All,

As many of you know, my 8 year old son Derek had to have an MRI as he has extra fluid in the back of his brain..

Here is a link for those of you who may have missed the thread I posted about this :
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/030777.html

I just wanted to thank you all for all your advice and for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers!!

And now for the good news. I got a call from the Pedi Neurosurgeon at the Children's hospital and for now our prayers have been answered!!!!

The area in the back of his brain where the fluid is collecting, is the same exact size as it was 6 months ago... so this is good news!

The neuro said that as the area hasn't enlarged over the past 6 months, that at this time he won't have to have surgery to drain it.

And she is hoping that it will continue to remain the same size for his follow up MRI's..

But if he has any more dizzy spells, or loss of balance like before, he will need to be reevaluated and have another MRI, and possibly surgery to drain the excess fluid.

So we will continue to cross our fingers and pray!

Thanks again for all your support!

~LymeBrat

Hi Missy,
So glad to hear such good news.
Thanks for taking time to let us know what the Neurosurgeon said.

We'll continue to pray that Derek avoids the surgery.
Give him a big hug for us.

Missy that is wonderful news. i am so happy for you and Derick. I will keep him in my prayers.

Add my son to your prayers list too. He tested positive for Lyme. He is not symptomatic at the moment but he has been sick in the past so we are waiting to start treatment until he shows symptoms again. He is 7.

I hope Derick will show improvement.

Cindy

Missy,

That is great! I'll pray you won't need the surgery and it just disappears on its own.

Hugs and Prayers,
Amanda

congrats on the great news! so derek had dizzy spells, is htat what made you look into the MRI and found fluid on the brain?

I can't seem to find an explanation for my dizziness all the time...is this common or did he have other symtpoms also? they've ruled out everything and I"ve had cat scans etc...equilibrium tests etc..all normal..still dizzy, but comes and goes..can have whole good weeks, then a bout of a week of wooziness etc...

what do you think? no pain or headaches
