Last week received notice that my long term disability denial by UNUM would be reviewed because of some type of illegal action on the part of UNUM, as ordered by the Dept of Justice. Several other carriers were listed also.

Anyone else get this notice? Second letter stated it would take approximately 24 months to process all of the claims.

Unum has lost several key lawsuits, and is being forced to review these claims. One big issue is that they proceeded to terminate benefits to many people as soon as they started getting SSD benefits. Which makes no sense, as SSD requires disability from ALL occupations. LTD has to take into account your past work history, potential, etc. when considering employability (for the most part, anyway, depending on individual policies).

Hello,

Yes, I did recieve these papers...which I was amazed about, since we settled just prior to walking into the court room

I'm not going to bother for the small additional amount...it's not worth the time or stress
