He has written a book about his experiences as a ranger in the american river area of CA. That is where he got lyme. The book apparently is more about the river and rogues, not about lyme.
See this website for book signing schedule and his appearance on the program "Living on Earth" on NPR Feb. 12. That is what the schedule says, but when I checked out the area stations, some slot the program on other days. The station that I get, has it on Sunday instead. So, if you are really interested, can check out the other website, for the Living on Earth website.

hey lou---- I read this man's entire website connected to his book-and by golly by gosh, Amy Tan wrote a review of his book-that is amazing.
My youngest son, who has/had Lyme, is in jr. high and every Sept. the jr. high class goes on a river rafting trip down the American River in Sacramento. I let my oldest son go on this trip both times he was in jr. high, before I knew about the tick dangers on this trip. I did not let my youngest son go last Sept, and I am having reservations on letting him go next Sept.
I mean, I KNOW about the possibilities of him coming into contact with a tick on this raft trip, but the jr. high teachers have no interest in hearing anything to do with taking precautions on this trip. And if my son got another tick bite while going on this stupid trip, I would be the one dealing with it, not the teachers, who have not one iota of interest in hearing about field trips that put students into contact with tick populations.
Also, this author is speaking at Borders in Sacramento in March. My son's orthodontist office is right next to this Borders, and his next appt. is in March-coincidence? I think not. I hope to go to his talk and maybe even field him a couple of questions.

I understand your reservations about the trip. Being a river runner (in the past), my mouth is watering at the thought of going.
If it were me, I would go, and do everything possible to avoid any tick contact. Can't stop living. But I admit to not doing things these days on account of ticks. And if it were my son instead of myself, I might be even more careful.
So, do what you think is best. It is hard to know what that is sometimes. Any chance of giving the leaders a copy of a lyme info folder like from LDA or the PA group? They may not realize it but they have legal responsibility for the safety of their trip participants. That might not be the best approach, though, in trying to encourage them to be more aware of tick dangers.

Well, where was it? I listened to the whole hour and Jordan was not there. Wonder if different stations air programs on different weeks.
What the program did include this week was a segment on the Boston U. biolab, including interview with Mark THE RAT Klempner. Having come up with the conclusions desired by the NIH on Lyme, he has been rewarded with a big job on the biodefense program. The university got (from NIH) the OK for zillion dollar biolab to work on dangerous pathogens. But the neighbors don't like the idea and are trying to derail it. They don't realize that their health and safety mean nothing to this crowd. These universities will do anything for big govt funded projects.
Hope the neighbors succeed. U. of CA at Davis didn't get their biolab because of opposition from the people in the area, so it does happen that these things are stopped.
The whole thing is so fishy, just stinks to high heaven. First, we have anthrax incidents, apparently coming from germs obtained at a govt lab, and then sent thru the mail. This results in huge amount of our money spent on more such labs, more germs and more unscrupulous researchers having access to these germs. Looks like cause and effect and crime rewarded. Why do we never hear any of the media making this connection?
If anyone knows what happened to the segment on the lymie ranger, please let us know.
