Got my coinfections test results back from mdl. Sure enough, I have babesia. I knew there was a reason why the amoxicillian wasn't helping...
Does anyone know if babesia can be passed to the baby I am carrying? Could it have been passed to my 14-month-old in utero or via nursing. I know the amoxy I am taking to prevent this baby from getting lyme while I am pregnant doesn't work for babesia.
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much, sara

I did read somewhere that lyme, babesia and bartonella can cross the placenta. I will look now and see if I can find it. That's a good question. Be back hopefully soon.
So sorry about the babesia but you're lucky to have found it so quickly. Really is good to know the "whole picture".

I don't know how to paste a link here so this is a test. This isn't the first place I've seen the information about co-infections crossing the placenta but this is all I could find today. I've seen this information elsewhere.
If the link works read through to the 2nd or 3rd page...

Pretty much anything a mother carries can be passed to her babies, lyme disease and its coinfections not excluded.
You have POTS Syndrome, right? I betcha babesia is the cause of it and it will get much much better with treatment.

I guess it is good news in a way because I highly suspected it, and wanted to know if I should be treated after I have this baby. Now I know.
I have had chronic vertigo and dizziness, lots of blacking out, and severe vision problems for a long time. I don't know if I have POTS, but I have a lot of similar symptoms.
Thanks for the information! I don't believe my 14-month-old, whom I nursed and was untreated while carrying has Lyme. I didn't know what was going on with me when I was pregnant with him, or I would have been treated throughout my pregnancy. He is doing well and is developmentally normal and has only had one or two colds in his life. I am having him tested just in case.
I guess I'll have to wait 6 more months to be treated for the babesia, but I guess after 5 years of it, I can hang in there.
Thanks again, Sara
