Hi i am new to this forum. My mother was diagnosed in december by dr f in kennett square. She has been on abx since then and has gotten significantly worse. She had an MRI in december which showed 5 lesions in her brain. Is this common? Is this even a symptom? Because i know it is a symptom of ms, and along with her other symptoms could be lyme or ms. Also, anyone gone to dr f? i am unsure of him, any info on him would be great.

Hi. Sorry about your mom. I, too, had brain lesions and we went through the "MS drama." Four neurologists saw those lesions and I got four different answers. After seeing 14 various doctors and 'ologists, the lesions were determined to be Lyme lesions. Hang in there with the antibiotics. It sometimes gets worse before it gets better. Carol.

Thanks Carol. I guess i am just a bit skeptical about lyme because it is not widely known as such a devastating illness. When i tell people my mom is severely ill and can hardly walk, and so tired and cant work all because of lyme, they look at me funny. But slowly i am discovering what a widespread epidemic this really is. The doctor my mom went to also told me he thinks i have lyme too, which i am not so sure of. Why is this such an obscure disease when it can be so devastating? Is it necessary for someone famous to contract it before people are actually made aware? i am just so frusterated at this point, i am rambling. Sorry. But thanks again for the info.

Hi Sam-

Your confusion and frustration are understandable and unfortunatley common. Lyme can be so devistating.

The worse before getting better issue is usually because of a herx reaction to dead bacteria. Someone will come along and explain it better. But basically the dead bacteria cause pain as they break down in our bodies until we can flush them out.

Whenever there is a medication change this reaction can be worse, otherwise it is usually cyclical.

We see Dr. F .It is not uncommon for whole families to have lyme. I took my son to him for treatment, he heard what treatment I had and eventhough I was feeling good he said I still had lyme. Within a few months I relapsed. This has happened with others who have taken loved ones for treatment.

Somehow whole families become infected. Or one member is skipped. Who knows exactly why. My son and I were bitten on separate occations. I think Chris had it when we started dating and the dog picked it up along the way. My daughter does not have it. No symptoms at all.

Go figure.

I trust my family to Dr f.

Mel
