Hello,

I posted last week as my 6 year old daughter Mikayla, was having severe chest pains. We took her to the ER and while they still do not know what is causing the pain, they did do an x-ray and ekg and her heart and lungs are fine.

Mikayla continues to suffer from bad chest pains, even though she is taking Motrin every 6-8 hours. So painful that it makes her cry....

She will be going to the doctor tomorrow for another evaluation and more testing. Hopefully we can discover what is causing the chest pain....

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you,
~Missy

P.S. for those not familiar with Mikayla's story, here is the link to my post last week

Hi Missy,

I have been following Mikayla's ordeal with the chest pains, and I want you to know that I am thinking about you both, and sincerely hope that this will get resolved soon.

I reallt hope the doctor can shed some more light on this, since the school nurse seems pretty worthless and the ER docs can only do so much. Please let us know how the appointment goes, and if anything new was discovered. At the very least, maybe they can give her something that the pain responds better to?

best wishes,
Sara

Hi Missy

You're both in my thoughts and prayers.

I hope they can at least find something to keep her comfortable while you figure out this terrible ordeal.

Hi there Lymebrat,

Already prayed for Mikayla and you. Know how scary chest pains can be.

I was on Amoxy, Flagyl and Mino which caused chest pains, burning in neck and chest and facial swelling. This decreased dramatically when meds were stopped and only took Mino three times a week.

Still have some chest pains off and on but think it's related to the Lyme and cranial nerve damage. Tincup posted some great info on cranial nerve damage in Medical. Vagus nerve can be affected so please check it out.

I noticed a heating pad and massaging the area will help with some of the pain.

Really hope this helps litte Mikayla!!!

Prayers for your Mikayla, and for you that you and the docs find some answers.

It is so hard when children are hurting!
Best to you both!

Missy-

I read through just about every post and did not see anyone mention potential allergies as a cause. I mention this because I have severe allergies, having grown greater in number and severity as my immune system got overwhelmed by fighting off the Lyme. I spent a couple of YEARS getting unexplained terrible chest (all the way through to the back) pain, generally centered or underneath the left breast area. After all the standard heart, lung, etc. testing, they told me that it was probably a "fluke" I would just have to live with. Once I began investigating my allergies and had a thorough testing with IGENEX, I found out many things I never suspected allergies to. I immediately eliminated everything on the list and felt MUCH relief, including NO more chest pains. I then started to add back certain foods individually and found that some fruits, legumes & nuts, eggs and milk could bring those EXACT chest pains back. I am pretty convinced therefore, that was the cause. If I avoid the foods, I don't get the pains anymore and it has been two years now. Ask your doctor to consider sending blood samples for a complete IGg, IGe workup and in the meantime, see if there have been any common foods or drinks, medicines or even environmental things that have been going on when she has had her "attacks" with the pain. Also, check her tongue for swelling (it will be ridged around the edges from being swollen up against her teeth) which is a sign of chronic allergic reactions. My lips swell and face pales if I get a reaction to something, and though I have never had blue lips, it certainly could be that she is having a mouth reaction to something she has ingested, even in the past 48 hours (some allergies are quite delayed). Just wanted to be sure to pass this on to you as a possibility since it sounds like you've tried everything.
I wish you the very best in finding out the cause very soon so she can feel well again and you will both be in my thoughts and prayers! take care. Lori
