Just wanted to say that I had my son when I was 37 years young. Tried for nine years to get pregnant. Then I got the sweats, hoarse throat, and lost alot of weight. I had a thyroid nodule.

Lymies have a lot of thyroid problems. Untreated thyroid problems can keep you from getting pregnant. Went to the endocrinologist and within a few months my hormones were back to the levels needed to be able to get pregnant.

The endocrinologist said anyone who has a problem getting pregnant should have the thyroid checked before going the very expensive infertility route.

It could be worth the trip to the endocrinologist. My nodule took a long time to grow to the point of causing physical noticeable problems. The undetected problem kept me from getting pregnant for years.

I prayed every month that this would be the month. Finally I think the Big Man upstairs heard me and made that nodule a problem. Another year or two and I'd have been too old.

As for your question - I got lyme after getting pregnant so I can't answer that question.

There have been numerous posts about woman with lyme that have had healthy children. They have been carefully monitored and I believe have often had abx during pregnancy.

My kids were before lyme. Last year we discovered my mate had lyme/babs for a long time. Low and behold as he is getting better I like him even better than I did before! He likes me better to now that I'm about 95% well too.

We don't remember the sick years to well.

This is obviously a controversial issue, and many would disagree with me, but my take on the subject is that you should not allow the lyme to deter you from having children. The exception should be if you don't feel well enough to be able to take care of them and offer them everything that young children need, but since you are feeling well I don't think that's an issue for you.

I believe that if you are diligent about taking amoxicillin throughout the entire 9 months of pregnancy, and you are followed closely, you should feel excited and happy to be carrying a baby. There will probably always be that nagging "what if," but we all have some level of worry about having a healthy baby regardless of the hurdles we all face.

My husband is willing to get tested (humiliating and embarrasing but necessary)so I am lucky. I also am praying that if he has Lyme as well (Ignex reaults come back in a few days) that it will be continue to be much more mild than my case since we will have caught it very early. Thank God!

She is doing well. She just turned 5 years old. Is incrediably smart. She is improving. Her treatment has been over a year so far.

As long as you are free of co-infections and you treat the Lyme while you are pregnant you should be fine.
