I just started seeing Dr. J in NC and I am still in the "diagnosis" phase of treatment but I am having problems with my local Doc.

Dr. J wants me to have a Spect/PET scan done before my next visit, yet my family Doc doesn't think it is necessary so I am kinda stuck in a bad place.

I cannot understand why an out of state Dr. can prescribe medication with success, but cannot line up a simple brain scan... Can someone help me with this problem ?

Will I indeed have to find another Doc in Ga to sign off on the test, or is there another way to have the test done locally with only Dr. J's advisement ?

The jemsek clinic told me they could arrange the scan for me in NC, but that is just an even larger hassle than driving 5 hours. I want the test done locally so how can I go about doing it ???

Please help.

Thanks,

BL

I have had a number of tests done with orders from out of state docs. Don't understand the problem, unless you have an HMO or some kind of insurance that requires this kind of approval.

If your insurance/HMO doesn't require approval of the local doc, then you can just go to a facility that does this kind of test and hand them your order. Usually, you have to contact them first and get it scheduled, as to time. You will need to have the test order on a prescription form or whatever. Do you have this?
