I think by reading your post it tells me that you are one angry your person adn could certainly benefit from some counseling by yourself or with your family...
have you heard the saying 'me thinks she protests too much'....
If you can't see that she was trying to help, then I thnk she was correct in posting and maybe she trying to get you into some help here...
just =think about it...no every 18 year old would react the same way you just did.

Actually, I believe most every 18 year old would react this way.
Although, I dont think most every 18 year old would say their mom sucks (which is a sexual insult--you might as well call your mom a whore).
She does have a point in a way...It is a family matter.

Kara, Actually, I have an 18 year old step son who would come and talk to me and make sure I was o.k. LOL--I suspect he and his sister are more mature than me! I think his sister would do the same thing at 18 (she's 22 now). BUT, me and their Dad are the sick ones and I 'm not their Mom and we have something special going...
Mymomsucks, I don't think it is every parents goal to try to make their children kill themselves. In fact it is just the opposite.
Sometimes Mom's need someone to dump on too--about all their fears and concerns. Sometimes it is really scary being a mom. Sometimes you still feel the same as when you were 18, only you have the responsibility to a person who made no choice to come into this world--the Mom and Dad made the choice. I suspect that feeling of responsibility never goes away--no matter what the age of the child. I had someone tell me that the wonderful feeling you get when you kiss your little children, when you are overcome with love--it never goes away--not even when you are 85 and that child is 65--not even when that child is fat and bald! You still get that overwhelming feeling of love--that is just the way God wired us.
There are other people on this site who are in their 20s and are still waiting to start their lives, still living with Mom and Dad, waiting to go to college and find a boyfriend or girlfriend. In a way we are all stuck in this waiting place. Waiting to get over the Lyme--so we can get it behind us--so we can make good choices for ourselves--not choices that may be influenced by spiroketes that crossed our blood-brain barrier.
You and your Mom need to talk to someone together--I know your Mom really loves you and is really concerned about you. Ya'll need a mediator so you can get some good communication going.
Do you know anyone that could help do that?
Linda

I did not read the 'teen predator' thread so I don't know what that's all about, but I hope that you and your mom can sort whatever it is out between you, privately.

Isn't it every parents goal to make their child want to kill themselves? I think if thats hers....then she's sure succeeded!
She looks for any excuse to chat on this site with you people because everyone offline is sick of her complaining!
Flaming your mother and making fun of people on this site is not very nice or mature thing to do. I know you are upset but you may want to edit this after you have time to reflect on this post.

Ummm I do have a counselor and I have tried to talk to my mom about this many times but she refuses to listen to me...so if she's going to post stuff here about me that doesn't belong in this forum I don't see why I can't. I think this will get her attention! And.......I don't know why she was so freaked over this situation. I was just talking to the guy. And I was glad that I finally found someone that enjoyed talking to me. ok?

Ok..he is not twice my age that is ridiculous. And I have found a bunch of people on the internet that have wanted to talk to me and I do and I have met some really cool people. I was giving up hope that I would never find anymore friends.I never used to do that, but I am finding alot of support. And I do not think I know it all. That is insane. I am barely graduating. All 18 year old would act this way? I'm not sure about that. My mother is ruining my friendships (and I have very few) wouldn't you be a little upset about that as well? I certainly don't have a problem fitting in. I don't want to, I want to be my own person and if people judge me by the way that I dress then they have a big problem.

Your mother has her reasons for doing this. One of them is that she loves you (and your siblings) more than any other(s) in the world... She loves you more than she loves your father, more than she loves her friends, more than she loves her mother, more than she loves her father and more than she loves her siblings.
I've been somebody's mother and I've been somebody's child. Though my parents are gone and I miss them terribly, I know that I love my children more. We do our best to protect our children, sometimes making life a lot more difficult for ourselves.
I, too, have to question why anyone with good intentions and any degree of maturity would hang up after the first ring.
You must have heard stories about the terrible things that can happen to teenagers who meet online friends. Your mother has heard those stories and this scares her to death, not because she wants to ruin your life, but because she's afraid...really afraid of what could happen.
Many in your position have been harmed and in the future more will be harmed. Protecting yourself from a man, who you know only from what he's told you, is common sense. None of us want to see your story on the six o'clock news.
Protect yourself.

One of the ways moms problem solve is by talking to other moms.
She loves you but needed to validate her reaction to the situation. It seems talking to your friend worked out.
My daughter hates it when I've done just what your mom did. Your mom will do it less as you get older. My daughter is 21 and I no longer feel the need to keep her safe. Now, should she ask for my help, I would be all over it. That's what moms do.
Be well.
Mel
Be thankful that your mom loves you and that we aren't too weird.

Hi there, did he offer HIS email address? Did he offer anything, an email to you but addressed to her, about exactly who he is, where he lives, what he's like? Nah, didn't think so, tell me I'm wrong.
Anyhoo... me? I'm old so you might as well write me off now as being a nobody. But when I was 17, met a guy who said he was a photographer and wanted to take pics of me, thought me model material. Told me not to tell the friend who introduced us (all were much older and I found guys my age... boring). Anyhoo, met him at a public place where he said to meet, I left my car there and went with him.
Drove through areas that I had no idea where I was... a long way from home and was confused. Took me into his basement suite (his mother lived upstairs) and made it very clear that the doberman pincher (sp?) dog would attack if I wasn't with him.
We went in, he poured some drinks and insisted I down it to relax. Drinking was a real draw for me anyways, growing up with both parents in chronic pain. Then the head games. I will spare you the details....
Anyways, we started the photo shoot and he made it clear that I either went along with things or would have to go past the dog. He was 300++# I should add. To stay alive and get the hell outa there, I went along with his very painful sexual perversions. And I got out alive. Shamed. Alone. No one to tell.
After many years, I saw his name in the paper, up on charges. I gave my statement to the cops which made it around 100 victims, the youngest, that we know of, was 8. Friendly guy... that would offer to kid-sit for single Moms.
Yeah yeah yeah... I can see ya rolling your eyes. I would have, too. Or the party I went to and someone slipped rohypnol into my drink and was raped by 2 men. That was in my 30s.
After I had gone and worked as a sexual assault counselor. I thought I "knew" better, knew how to take care of myself, knew the signs to watch for.
Yeah yeah yeah... nothing to do with you and your situation. I know. And maybe, just maybe, the amount of responses you are getting is because some of us got a clue, the hard way. Take it or leave it. Up to you.
Any honorable person, sincerely interested in you (and aren't we ALL listening to you???) would be open and willing to meet your Mom and anyone else, nothing to hide. But there's a thrill in the danger of it all eh? I know, been there. Why I'm alive (and I only shared 2 of about a dozen sexual assaults) is beyond me....
I know what it's like to feel alone and no one gets me. Still do. It's part of being human, at times. Although you don't like what you're hearing, it will sink in, since we ARE hearing you and we do give a rat's as....pect.
Be well, be smart. Love yourself. Love is the key. Always. StinkBug

Hey hey mms...
Not at all in tune to what's going on.. been off the computer for a month and out of state.. so I missed all the posts that now look like they have been edited?
But.. my guess is...
My friend wrote this post.. and if so.. I wanted to say...
The mint is doing well and is green as Emerald City right now. I planted it last fall in a nice place beside the house... exactly how you told me to do it.
The itty bity ivy.. well, it isn't itty bitty any more! It looks like a real plant now.. but I am just not ready to pinch it to make it bushy. I just think if I did it would say OUCH!
And the bath salts.. VERY nice.. and nearly gone! They kept me feeling better over the winter.
Thanks again for all the sweet things you shared with me. They made me smile.

Hi I don't know the story behind this but ..I almost got raped by a man 13 years older than I when I was 17. I got out of there really fast but I just had no idea about people then...my parents went after him, police and everything...I was angry and embarrassed at the time...but I thanked them later....
but you are SO LUCKY to have a mother that CARES what you do. people always say the hackned phrase, "someday you will look back and be grateful" Mark Twain even said that the older he got the strangest thing happened: his father got smart. ITs true.
What your mother is doing is the opposite of abuse and neglect...even now at my age, my parents are still concerned about what happens to me. We still have our differences and problems (what family doesn't) They still worry about me. Becasue i have lyme, they have a lot to worry about. Don't shut her out, even if you some of your anger is justified right now.
If you want to talk you can e-mail some of the folks here....they have probably been in your place AND are parents now as well so they can see both sides. Whatever you do, talk it out with a third party and don't hurt yourself

Hi,
Sorry you guys are having troubles like this, hope you can work it out together.
I just want to say that all women with lyme regardless of age need to be extra careful. I am saying this as I am a grown women who is no dummmy, but b/c of my lyme brain I almost walked into some serious trouble, so just be careful who you talk to and don't give out ANY personal information as there are some sick people out there just waiting to get their hands on vulnerable women.
I am not talking specifically of your situation as i don't know all the details, this is for everyone who feels a need to reach out to others cause they are hurting and in need of understanding, be careful you don't end up with the complete opposite.

All I can tell you, kiddo, is that it is tough being a parent. Moms don't stop worrying from the moment you slide out of the womb. And it's hard to let go as you guys get older. But I don't care what age a 'child' is, parents will turn into black bears to protect their kids if they sense any kind of danger.
Now maybe your mom made more of this than she should have, maybe not. Yeah, you're 18, but that's just a number. There are 12 year olds that can act more maturely than some 18 year olds. Now I'm not saying you are immature, but there is a lot that goes into acting maturely. You'll figure it out, especially when you become a parent someday. That's when I finally 'got' my parents.
You also are contending with a lot of issues that makes you a bit more vulnerable - you may not think so, but then again, those protective parent genes go into overdrive. It's embarrassing for your personal laundry to be aired online, but I think your mom needed some support at what she saw as a scary time for her. People here are very supportive and as parents we could all understand her concern that this individual you were talking with could be a predator. Totally embarrassing for you, I'm afraid, but parents will err on the side of caution even if it does embarrass their child. Embarassment fades......
I spoke with your mom quite some time ago about you and my lyme teen connecting up and chatting. I think it's really important because you all have lives that are so different right now from other kids your age. It's tough on my son too = he's missed a half year of school and all the great teen stuff that goes with it.....it sucks. cootiegirl
