Dear Sirs,
I was infected w/ Lymes Disease in the spring of '87. Working in a "hot Spot", two (2) ECMs & extended medical history. The diagnosis was certain, only late. I was not diagnosed and receive treatment until winter of "91. 3 1/2 years before treatment & even then it was only 21 days of IV Rocephrin.. The diseases toll on my body has been horrific. I was eventualy forced to move back to family & property in a small South Texas town of Port Aransa, just 30 miles outside Corpus Christi. The issue here is that LD is neither acknowledged nor treated. The local Infectious Disease expert publicly proclaimed "Lyme Disease in Texas is a myth." So now in 2005 I am still terribly ill. Have had multiple spine surgeries, both wrists- carpal tunnel sugery. Shoulder surgery, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, MFS,chronic fatique, RSD, Major depression, anxiety disorder & on & on... A myriad of health issues. One rheumatologist mentioned something about Post Lyme Syndrome. Other than that Dr.s are just running to "put out major fires" (health issues). What can I do, who can I see. I am now 47 & have a hideous painful life ahead of me. If you can be of any help, info, referrals etc... it would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Bill,
I am sure that everyone here will relate to what you are going through as so many have similar horror stories. Your ID doctor in Texas is either ignorant or dishonest. The Texas lone-star tick, Amblyomma americanum, has been proven to carry a species of borrelia which produces an illness with identical symptoms to Lyme. And the "traditional" Lyme bacteria, borrelia burgdorferi, is spread across the country by birds, movement of animals, people etc..

Here are some resources.
1) Doctor referrals:

For Online Doctor Referrals, please email [email protected].
For Phone Doctor Referrals, please call 888-366-6611. Go through the menu to the Doctor Referral Box, leave your name and telephone number and you will be called.
-------
There is also a page on the website of Lyme Disease Foundation with a form to fill in for a doctor referral - go to this web address:
http://www.lyme.org/resources/dr_ref.html
Phone: 860-870-0070 Fax: 860-870-0080
-----
If you access this page on the Lymenet site you will see links for Texas support groups:
http://www.lymenet.org/SupportGroups/UnitedStates/Texas/

There may be Texans on this board who can also give you advice. Good luck.
Lisa

WELCOME To LYMENET

Here's more goodys! A typical response to newcomers.

Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. "Lyme literacy" means, first and
foremost, knowing how to diagnose the disease accurately. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.

Bill,

I am so sorry this is happening. If it helps I think a lot of us feel that way. I've lost the person I use to be--I'm not the person I thought I would ever be--nowhere even close.

I heard a radio disk jockie talking about feeling like you are living someone elses life.

Me, my husband and children are not suppose to be sick, or broke, or living in fear we will lose our insurance.

I am not suppose to have some exotic disease that everyone has but they just don't know it--so I am punished for being luckier or smarter than the pack by finding a good doctor and getting a diagnosis for a disease my governemnt doesn't believe. Heck, my mother, my father, my siblings--no one believes...

I don't know if ya'll realise this but we are all suffering from some kind of mass hysteria and we are feeding each others dilusions--so sayith my brother--
THE DOCTOR. I am just surrounding myself with people with the same mental illness as myself and the internet allows me to do that. The saddest part is I have included my children--acording to my big bro.

Bill, if you can't use anyone else go with the rhemy--he at least has good instincts. Worse case senario you two can learn how to treat lyme together. Otherwise, I would really try to get to some of those Texas llmd.

Hopefully things are about to turn around for you. With a wish and a prayer you may just find a good llmd.

And even with lyme disease, Bill, you are smarter than the pack--you know you are sick and you are going to get fixed! Just stay focused and percistant.

Linda

Hey Bill........there's tons of Lyme in Texas. Even one of the state's representatives has Lyme. Chris Harris.

I'm a 6th generation Texan, lymed near Brenham in the 50's. Lucky me. I wasn't diagnosed in Texas, however!

here's a website for you...I'll email you later.
www.tickstexas.org
or is it www.ticktexas.org

?? check it out...proof that it's there
