So, I started taking flagyl (1500mg/day) with doxy (200mg/day). I now feel sooo much worse with my walking. It was bad with doxy before, but now it's impossible!
Has anyone felt this before? I am so worried that this is permanent. What if it's not a herx reaction, and it's permanent. Am I just getting worse??

Good evening SAK,
I am so sorry that you are feeling rotten.
That is a large dose of flagyl to start out with. Many have to work up to the prescribed dose by taking smaller amounts over a few weeks.
Please, speak with your doc, and see if you can back off, and then start anew with a smaller dose, OK?
How long have you been on doxy?
Melanie

That is a very high dose of Flagyl. Most doctors have people start out with a low dose, sometimes just one pill every other day, and gradually work their way up. I was on Flagyl for over a year but never did work up to that high a dose. Sometimes doctors tell people to stop the medicine for a few days if the Herx is bad. Flagyl can cause terrible Herxes, with severe depression. A Herx can trick a person into thinking they are getting worse when they are actually on the road to recovery. Flagyl can cause neurological symptoms as a side effect, but a Herx can cause those symptoms, too. I have increased trouble walking during a Herx, but it usually gets better in a few days. So, don't panic. I hope you are taking something to Detox. The faster you can get the toxins from the dying bacteria out of your body, the faster you can get over a Herx. I'm no expert on what to take to detox, but other people on here probably can tell you what to take. Most vitamin companies sell things for detoxing.

Thanks everyone for your help and support. it means a lot to me.
I've been on doxy just over 5 weeks. So, I know that's not causing my distress. It's flagyl. I'm going to take some days off it. I have only taken it for 5 days and things just get worse by the day.
I'm confused about herx/side-effects. If it's a side-effect it should be just as bad sooner no?

Flagyl is known to cause peripheral neuropathy as a side effect, in some people. So, in addition to taking a whopper dose and the herx you get, it might also be side effect you are experiencing.
I had to switch to another drug in that same family, generic name of tinidazole. You might want to try that instead of flagyl, since it also acts on the cyst form but doesn't produce the neuropathy side effect. This one also needs to be ramped up, to avoid killer herx. Not surprised you are feeling bad if you started with the full dose!
