I grew up in FL, so when I first moved north, I fell in love with autumn and winter. Also tried to make a point each Fall of seeing the changing leaves.

This year, as in the past, I made a reservation for a place deep in the mountains. S/O was surprised I would "opt to be in the woods."

As soon as I heard that, I couldn't think of anything else but being in tick-infested woods and being this sick. [Frown]
I had made the reservation out of habit but this year, after I had some time to sit with the decision and we talked, it all got changed.

This year, we're going to a jazz weekend at the beach next month and then up to NY in Dec. to see the holiday lights and wonderful store displays on 5th Ave.

I'm feeling sad now and a bit sheepish (maybe cowardly would be a better word). Wondering if this sort of thing has happened to anyone else? Also wondering if it changes over time (I've only been on abx 4 months...

Hi Andie,

We have had to adjust our vacations around our health. My 2 kids and I have lyme and are still trying to get all our energy back.

What I have learned is that if I am feeling overwhelmed about an activity; that is usually because I know at some level that it will be too much. Same with my kids.

We are trying to think of trips we can take that will be fun but not exhausting...which ends up not fun.

I would go with your gut and figure out some way to get away that won't be too much.

Andie: it sounds as if you've planned a lovely vacation--the kind of vacation you might well have taken even without LD! There's nothing cowardly about making changes to your lifestyle as your situation changes. It's actually called...uh, what's the word....oh yeah. Sensible.

As Lyme-Suz says, just be sure you're not overtaxing yourself. I get incredibly crabby when I'm tired, and do stupid, annoying, and sometimes dangerous things. The idea is to have a happy time and then quit while you're ahead, not prove a point.

I can't tell you how reassuring it was to read all your posts this morning.

I got up a bit depressed (has happened this week) and doubting so many things, including these upcoming trips.

Then I read your posts.

Lyme-suz -- my hat's off to you, all of you in your family. [bow]
Honestly, I don't know how Lyme moms manage. It's hard for me just to keep up with myself and my own stuff. I give you an enormous amount of credit and hope you all continue to feel better.

Minu, great to hear from you. You're right -- this would be the type of thing I'd do if I were healthy...it's just a relatively tick-safe option. I guess I need that right now.

And you and Cmarie are right: the point of a vacation is to relax, and chances are I wouldn't be able to do that if I were always stressed about ticks or trying to find the energy to walk, canoe or go horesback riding.

Even though I feel awful, I'm amazed that each day, I wake up as if I'm going to be great that day...as if I'm just not sick at all.
Maybe one day, that will be true.

Thanks everyone!

Andie

Tree-- Good for you and your wife!

That's one of my favorite states. Enjoy the fall and take lots of pictures (even though pictures can never really capture the beauty of those leaves!)

My thoughts will be with you...and for me, well, maybe next year!

Andie!

I think your trips sound like a lot of fun. 3kids is right; who knows, this may become a new tradition.
