Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is doing fairly well. I haven't been able to post much, as my entire life has been consumed with trying to get My daughter, Mikayla's type 1 diabetes under control.

She is still having highs and lows but is doing much better under the care of the Children's hospital at Dartmouth.

We are doing a walk a thon to cure Juvenile Diabetes on Sunday and she has earned over $2000.00. We are all so proud of how she is being so brave and adjusting to her life with diabetes.

I am still in my anger stage and find I still break down crying..... even 4 months after her diagnoses. I wonder if I will ever come to terms with her having diabetes.

When she had Lyme disease, I never felt this sense of helplessness/hopelessness. I guess because she was seeing Dr.Jones and I was assured that she would be cured of the lyme.

But there is no cure at this time for type 1 diabetes and I'm having a hard time coping with the fact that my daughter will always be sick..forever.

On a happier note, she is still a very happy little 7 year old girl and is taking her illness much better than her mom! [Smile]

Okay on to Derek. Derek is doing soooo much better with his lyme treatment. His major complaints are joint pains, headaches and mixing up letters when he writes.

He now has a 504 plan set up at school so he doesn't have to write as much and if his hands hurt or are swollen, someone will write what he dictates to them.

This has been such a blessing, as I have always known what a bright boy he was and now the teachers are able to see it as well.

He sees Dr. Jones in November and I am hoping we can try somethign new to help with the joint pain.

As for me, I am still off all antibiotics and doing well. Even as run down as I have been the -past 4 months, I haven't had another relapse and pray I continue to be in good health so I can care for my children.

I think of you all often and continue to keep you all in my prayers.

I will write more later, I just wanted to stop by and let you all know I am still hanging in there:D

Hugs, ~Missy

HI!
Nice to hear from you again.I haven't been on here much lately either as my Dad had a stroke a couple of months ago and I haven't been all that well either.

I am so glad to hear that you and your son are doing better. What do you attribute to the improvement??

I sympathize with you about your daughter but kids adjust and that is the main thing. She will handle it well if you handle it well.It just isn't fair sometimes though.Lyme and then this.I would hate my kids to have to go through lyme.It has not been a pleasant experience.

It was nice to hear from you and hope things continue to improve for you.

Take care,Sue from Downunder.

Hey Gary,

Good to hear from you! Thanks for the post and well wishes for me and the kids, they are truly appreciated. [Smile]

I am hoping that once I can get my daughter settled into school, that I will have more time to chat with all of you. Lymenet has become like an extended member of my family and I miss all of you.

Ya, if my little girl ends up anything like me, the world better watch out! [Wink] LOL!

And she has red hair and the temper to match it.. and is a very determined, independent willful little girl, so I know she will be able to cope with anything life throws at her.

I hope things are going better for you! I have been wondering how you have been, take care and I'll chat again soon!

Hey Sue,

Sorry to hear about your dad! Good to hear from you, I hope things are going well!

For me, I think it was the combo of Minocycline, Biaxin and Plaquenil that finally did the trick to kick the lyme. I think the Mino was the best thing I ever did for my neuro lyme.

My son Derek is seeing Dr.J in CT and is on Zithromax, Amox and is starting Plaquenil. I am hoping the plaq. will help with his joint pain.

You are so right about kids being so resilient. I think my little girl is handling this way better than most adults could.

Hope things are well, talk to you soon!

~Missy
