Hi, I live in California but am writing on behalf of a dear friend back east, in the Northampton / Easthampton area of Western Massachusetts.
My friend, through no fault of her own, just lost her apartment. She's a late-stage Lyme patient who has just barely been managing to pursue treatment and keep a roof over her head.
I hope she'll be able to find something soon, but she's pretty ill and for now is living with a friend in a place with no heat and lots of mold (my friend has severe allergies, and how much longer she'll be able to stay there I don't know).
Please DO NOT ASK OR TRY TO GUESS who my friend might be - I have her permission to ask for help but not to compromise her privacy.
Instead, contact me at [email protected] if you live in Western Massachusetts and might be able to help with any of the following:
The logistics of moving, assuming my friend finds a place;
Offering a sofa for a few nights, (if you don't smoke or have any pets), in case she can't get resituated immediately;
Helping with information about rentals (I hear the rental market out there is very tight).
If you are in a position to help with any of those items, drop me an email and let me know.
I'll pass that on to my friend and if she gives her ok I'll email you her cell phone number so you can get in touch with her directly.
I don't know if I'm going about this in the right way.
All I've done is put a 'housing needed' listing on the craigslist site for western mass.
It just makes me crazy to think of her not having a safe place to call home.
I hope there's no rule against a post like this on Lymenet. I've tried to do it in a way that is safe for everyone and just enables people closer to my friend to help, if they are willing and able to do so.

If you go to the colorful menu on the left, you probably could find a support group in her area. They might be able to help her find what she needs.
You are a good friend. I wish you both much luck. Ann - OH

I spoke with my neighbors who will be renting a one bedroom apt in Northampton by next week. Can call Robinson Realty, and they are asking $650, but they are painting, putting in new carpeting. If there are environmental issues, that probably won't work for your friend. This is in the vacinity of Jackson Street School.
At any rate, my neighbors said that Robinson Realty on Conz Street, Northampton, does a good portion of the rentals in this area.
Hope you received my email.
