A couple of doctors here in SC say they are aware of a lab that produces and unusual amount of positives for Lyme.
This makes them uncomfortable using the lab. They can never remember the name of the lab and since Igenex is the only one I have heard of does anyone know of where you could find statistics for something like that?

Did you do a search with Google?? could be Bowen labs. They sound like all the other drs....."lyme just can't be the problem everyone says it is..."

Wouldn't it make sense that given the unreliability of the ELISA and it's propensity of false negatives, that when tested by a lab that deals almost exclusively with TBD there would be more positives?
Especially when the labs like Lab Corp. only run a blot after a positive elisa. With places like this, the testing stops after the elisa... And it has been proven, stated, etc that the ELISA is NOT sensitive enough to be a screening test with only 60% sensitivity....
Specialty labs offer more diverse testing in their lyme panels, such as PCR and perform WB as standard. And this doesnt include other methods such as urine tests.
Look at it this way, if you take your Mercedes to the local domestic car dealer to have them diagnose an computer problem do you really expect them to find what that problem is? No, thats why you would never take your mercedes there for such a problem, you take it to a shop with mercedes experience...
Your body is more important and valuable than a car, that is why you take your tests to a TBD specialist.... Of course those who are in denial of lyme will try to use this as a reason to discredit the leading laboratories.... What a crazy political disease this is!

Of course that makes sense to me...but my sister in laws' doc will not send the Igenex blood kit off unless she has statistics to make sure they are not just throwing out positives.....

She needs to fire that guy! We've had several polls here where the question was asked "Was your WB from Igenex negative or positive?" For your sister-in-law's information.....Mine was CDC negative. [of course, that's just splitting hairs]

WOW! I would cut and paste Bob's letter (with permission, of course...), put it in a letter of my own to the doctor who is asking for stats.
